Quad Channel = bad frames? [SOLVED]

Final update: Something, somewhere, was eating my system. After removing the new set I found that dual channel was also giving me <70 frames. After doing a system restore, nothing. Attempted a wipe and reload. A delete and quick format wouldn’t succeed due to some driver. I had to do a SLOW, REAL format to clear out the issue and was able to reinstall.

I now have quad channel and frames are capped out.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS, WIPE AND RELOAD.

So at first maybe I thought I had installed my RAM in the wrong slots. Nope, they are in the right slots, all sticks accounted for, CPU Z reaffirms it’s in quad channel mode.

Here’s the deal: I had 16GB of RAM in dual channel running high frames (1920x, 2x1080GTX, Nvme SSD) ~160-180 frames (Monitor 144mhz).

I installed exact same RAM to quad channel. Now, the RAM/Motherboard/AMD all say they can take / run at 3600mhz but keklolwtf that’s never been stable for me so I’m generally at 2800mhz.

OW is 70 idle, and <50 in gameplay. It’s TERRIBLE.

What the hell is going on? Someone, pls.

I also tested 3200mhz just to see if something magical would happen, nope.

Update: I switched out the “old” sticks and just put the “new” ones in as dual channel (they are the same brand g.skill 3600mhz) and the low frames disappears.

So basically, if I try the pseudo quad channel (I think it’s 2+2, not true quad), I have to say goodbye to frames.

Any solutions? The sticks will just have to sit out pretty until it’s resolved, I guess.

Overwatch does seem to prefer dual-channel memory according to numerous posts from staff and other players. I don’t have any personal experience with quad-channel.

Apparently it was some driver somewhere exploding infinitely eating resources.

Wipe and reload fixed it.
