QP need to get SBMM or smurfing will keep happening in comp

QP (Quick play) need to get SBMM (Skill Based Match Making) or smurfing will keep happening in comp.

I wanna learn and master ball so I can play in GM without me having to derank or throw games for my teammates.

So I play QP right?

I play QP to learn the character, but i get low ranked/new players on the enemy team not having any game sense whatsoever, therefor i can’t even master ball cuz i’m not playing against ‘good’ players. Ofcourse i learn the basics that way but not the actual skill ceiling.

So I’m actually forced to make an alt account and smurf myself to masters - gm and then learn the character because i can finally play against ‘good’ players? Doesn’t matter if I throw for my team right? I’m on an alt account anyway. (Silly mentality, but u get the point)

^ That is the path I don’t want to take cuz i discourage smurfing hard. But it’s the only option that I see myself doing in order for me to get good at ball.

OR can we just make it so i gueue against higher ranks in QP so i can master ball without me having to derank on my main.

you can create a new (free) account that may be more what you are looking for?

QP has SBMM. It just isnt as strict as comp, and allows people of all ranks to queue together. But it certainly is not just random games disregarding mmr. Not sure why you are getting lower ranked enemies, I get like full gm teams if I solo q role q qp.

You can always just play on your main. You say you “discourage smurfing hard” but you’ve somehow convinced yourself you have no choice? Nonsense.

If you’re bad at Ball your gonna lose games no matter what rank you play at and this way it gives you more incentive to actually do your best and not just play ball into anything no matter what when you otherwise wouldn’t. Your basically washing hands of any concern or losing the match cos it’s just an alt/smurf :man_shrugging:t2:

It’s all moot at the end of they day though. Even before it went F2P blizz never cared about smurf/alt accounts so go nuts I guess.

Yeah people already said what I was thinking, QP has MMR/SBMM it just isn’t as strict. You don’t want to smurf or have smurfs but you think the only thing you can do is smurf. That makes no sense to me. You pretty much said you aren’t a GM ball player/Can’t play Ball in comp or else you derank. Assuming your GM, So why would you want to play against GM players in QP? Why not learn the basics and all that for Ball seeing as the others aren’t good, practice rollouts etc. Then once your confident in your rollouts and movement, play comp.

I don’t see the problem. You want to learn a “new” hero and have a perfect opportunity to do so in QP so why do you need to make a new account? If you make a new account you’ll run into the exact same problems. You won’t be able to play comp until you win/complete 50 QP games anyway and It won’t match you with GM players in QP right away either. So why not play 50 QP games on your main account and then switch to comp? I’m really confused what the problem is because as I see it, making a new account changes nothing but maybe I’m missing something.

that is what we call throwing.

if a hero is so far out of your wheel house that you feel the need to practice it in qp or on a new account then the reality is if you played it on your main then you’d be so useless people would just mass report.

for instance ive been masters on hitscan since 2017 with a peak of 3800~ (m2 in ow2)

but if you put me on echo (a hero ive recently been practicing), im a potato. and i dont mean like “oh hes masters so hes prolly like diamond or something” i mean im barely plat level on echo

a flying projectile hero is so far out of my area of experience that if i tried to practice her on ANY masters or even diamond account i would ruin those matches.

so the reason the OP wants to practice in qp is so they dont need to climb a new account up to prove they can play it in GM and if they cant they want to be challenged enough that they can improve on the hero.

just to be clear, its far worse to do this in a GM lobby then to try and practice a hero in gold or plat

people in gold/plat are already making a thousand mistakes a second, so if you end up being bad on the hero you blend right in. and if they end up being too good for that range they’ll climb up no problem.

your just lookin for a reason to hate on this type of alt account when its one of the most widely accepted kinds.

the answer would be so they can practice ball against GM’s without risk of throwing GM comp games.

otherwise the only good option is to make an alt and climb it up as high as you can while one tricking.

actually, no, this behavior does not meet the definition of throwing at all

I don’t think QP has any matchmaker at all

Quick play DOES have skill based matchmaking. My main account is in GM in comp and I get masters-GM players in quick play. I have another account that I havent finished climbing on which is in diamond and I get the same players in quick play

I don’t play QP that often, nor do I check ranks very often, but I frequently get silvers, golds and plats in my games on my GM1 account. Maybe I’ll play a few later and see what I see. Everyone is private though

I love all the different theories about the matchmaker

Here’s another one:

Whatever form of the matchmaker exists….you’re going to hate it….there is no magical matchmaking fix

I understand this but If he makes a new account to play on, it won’t be against GM players like he wants. It’ll be against low ranked players and if he is losing games against GM players in comp wouldn’t it be the exact same thing in QP where he’d lose? If he is in QP games against lower ranked players, then it’s the exact same as him making a new account to me at least and makes the most sense for him to play QP without worrying about what ranks he is playing against on his main. I’m not confused on why he wants to play QP, I’m confused on why he is so set on playing against GM players to a point where he’d go though a ton of extra effort making a new account and getting those 50 games for comp. When he could spend those 50 games in QP against various ranks on his main.

To me it just sounds a lot of extra effort making an alt and climbing in it so he can play against GMs’ when he already has an account at that rank/level. Especially when he will still have the exact same problem getting matched with low level players for a while on that alt account.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t play QP, I just don’t think making an alt account is helpful in this situation.

that is very true but he’ll climb up as far as he can.

the idea is that QP allows him to play into gms without the risk of throw comp games but if you have too make another account you just climb it up naturally as far as you can to ‘prove’ you belong in a given rank.

for instance with me on echo, im stuck in plat because i suck on the hero that much. its not even smurfing at that point because im that bad.

if i belonged higher i would shoot up to that rank and then be stuck at that point, either way its not like im ruining anyones matches besides the fact im one tricking a hero i suck at.

this is just a natural part of the ladder, some people are better on certain heroes so they need to have ways to practice them in a truely competitive environment.

the overall point is, he doesnt know (or believe he is) good enough to play against gm players in comp so he wants to either practice against them in a mode where people wont care if he sucks OR he has to climb the ladder naturally. once he hits GM then he has the green light to play the hero on his main account

stealin your thunder, one post at a time!

It must of been this that threw me off then, because I took this as he wanted to play against Masters to GM and doesn’t want to play against lower ranks which he is currently doing in QP on his main. I took this as he wants to make an alt expecting to be playing against Masters - GM almost right away, I clearly misunderstood in which case my bad. I thought the problem he was having was he didn’t want to play against lower ranks and wants to play against Masters - GM, Yet can’t/doesn’t want to play ranked because he can keeps deranking and or wants to avoid deranking. My bad.

well GM isnt all one skill level

idk this person personally but lets say they are GM1 as tank, the skill gap between a low gm player and gm1 is pretty big

so they might want to hit masters/gm to practice the hero because thats the rank they usually end up in on ‘new’ heroes.

in the same way that i usually aim for diamond on a new character because its just below my main rank, they’d probably do the same.

none of us want to end up too low because it isnt fun for us either. but thats how matchmakers work

its not a big deal, the entire situation can be very confusing for people that havnt had to do it before.

because it is very convoluted to need to make a new account and place it to practice a new hero, but thats the sad reality.

being X rank on a role doesnt mean your that good on every hero. most of us that originally hit masters/gm in ow1 did so by having a single hero (or 2 sometimes) that we hard focused on. but that means every other hero we play ends up being bad lol

one more small example, i was once a decent genji but when brig released i stopped and focused on hitscans (cass/widow mostly). years later i now cant play genji or any projectile hero to save my life. im in the practicing phase of re-learning how to aim on projectile heroes but…its rough. so im sitting on a plat account playing echo (and even a lil bit of genji) bout an inch away from quitting her for 5th or 6th time.

had it done this on any of my masters accounts, id of lost probably 20 in a row to do so.

this is why i have so many alts. all of em are around plat or diamond (one was in silver for a bit but its now plat 5) and are great for practicing heroes.

though i do find a small bit of glee in having people flame me for being bad, saying ill never be out of plat and so on. because i know the truth, i dont tell them because no one would believe it…but i get a nice chuckle out of it lol
