QP is basic Overwatch. Ranked is not

So quickplay is the basic Overwatch experience that has been advertised and promised to players.

It is the most filled and populated role.

Meaning the expectation is some form of competitiveness and teamwork.

Ranked is for hardcore players. Quit forcing me to go into ranked when it jsut induces panic attacks, anxiety attacks, and raises my blood pressure to a medically alarming level. I’m not exaggerating.

Ranked mode was very unhealthy for me at one point in the 6 years I have been playing this game.

I want to enjoy a the core fundemental experaince Overwatch offers with less stress on being perfect or grinding my free time just for a set of numbers to tell me “Good Job.”

Telling players to go into comp for any sense of competitiveness goes against the nature of our game and what PVP games are enjoyed for.

And another thing, stop treating enemies in QP as your personal target dummies and then your own teammates like burdened necessity.

I see that attitude all the time on the goofballs. They claum they’re having fun, but once you play with a known thrower the 5th time over you can already predict how they’ll perform, why they perform poorly, and see they made little to no progress at all.

You want to practice? Hire a coach and don’t bring four other players down with you. Maybe try Open Que where its less of a sweatfest?

Yes I want to be sweating, but never drenched in blood. Yes I want to tryhard, but never with mt veins full blown popping from my forehead. Yes we want to win! Because no one logs ques for QP expecting to see goofballs every other game!

lol

The matchmaking is trash, in both Comp, and QuickPlay

At least we can leave any game on the last one

When they say its Casual and should not be tryhard, they are directly talking about leavers.
Which in first place, are leaving Stomp matches. Because theres a point were enough is enough.

And the only influencers defending such penalties, are top500s that couldn’t care any less about another stomp.

They don’t care about quality matches. They need faster games for their viewers. And regardless of any result, they are still going to be in the leaderboard.

For the rest of the plebs, the experience is a living hell.

I enjoy QP because I can play my off heroes without stress and extra flaming because a rank is at stake. Keeps the game fun.

Yet many a player will say “Stop sweating in QP bro. Go play Russian roulette in ranked instead.”

At some level I do want to be putting in some effort while expecting some level of teamwork but not with everyone acting like its a Soap Opera with extreme drama levels. I don’t need that in my life.

You are boring. I want to bleed to death playing Overwatch. That’s the nightmare I long for.

I have done enough “blood, sweat, and tears” in my military career.

There is no reason that my downtime should also be filled with that sort of mentality. Not in gaming. Not in Overwatch.

Just give me ranked lite and I’l be fine. So far that’s QP.

Of course not. Video games are designed to be fun. Or at least they used to be. I intend to have fun. Nobody can stop me. Not even Sombra mains now that hell has frozen over. They Chupacabra booty is mine.

Flats put it best

Flats is not always correct.

And he’s a GM player that has friends to play with and plays for a living.

His world. Is neither yours or my own world.

In this case he’s just forcing people into ranked.

People don’t want to worry about a rank. Again players just want the basic Overwatch experience that was promised to us.

Stop treating QP as if its your own personal playground.

I swear its like you ranked fantaics are like the kid trying to hog a jungle gym. We all play here too ya know!

You can blame the devs on this one. So many of those who would normally leave and stop filling our QP games with toxicity are now stuck in fear of a penalty and therefore just troll until the game ends. In a VIDEO GAME no one should be forced to play it in the casual mode and be penalized for it. I don’t leave often enough to have experienced the penalty, but even I’m against how harsh it is. Considering there’s a backfill feature in this game (unlike others like LoL or the like that cannot have backfill) the penalty seems less justified.

And no he’s not always right. BUt here he is. What you’re playing right now is how the devs want the OW experience to be. You notice how no one was complaining about leavers nearly as much back then? No one talked about penalties and all that? Its because its a symptom of bad matchmaking and unfun metas. Thankfully the devs are ALSO looking at this so I give them credit where its due.

You want the competitive experience? Play COmp. Hence the name.

I do not necessarily disagree overall, but Flats does not have a right to call anyone else a terrible person. Let alone for such a silly reason.

I agree wholeheartedly.

You can’t fix the leaver problem by just being harsher to your own playerbase. The devs are ignoring the main issues at hand that make the game unfun. They refuse to touch the actual aspects that make playing many of their heros impossible or highly difficult.

And no. We do not need to accept the state the game is in or accept the bad takes on reality here.

We are the customers and consumers and have the right to express our concerns and opinions on this prpduct/service.

If Blizzard are real professionals they’ll take the real feedback, sort it out and then improve on it like a normal business does.

He’s overexaggerating but he is clearly frustrated. As am I because I’m in the same boat as him. I got tired of the crazy grinding comp experience (as OP has rightfully described) and am enjoying having fun in QP doing what I want. I just wish it wasn’t so tryhard.

I’m glad we can agree on that point. On this point specifically, due to the current meta of the game and the harsh punishment, its causing these poor QP experiences for you. I do sympathize as if I was wanting a more “Comp Lite” experience and was getting what QP is now, I’d be just as frustrated. But sadly we can’t really demand people play a certain way. That’s why one-tricking isn’t a bannable offense. Its not the way the devs meant the game to be played but they can’t stop you from playing Pharah into Widow and Ashe. Similarly, not trying hard or playing with teamwork is not a bannable offense either. In Comp it could be perceived as throwing, but in QP its not.

That’s fair. That’s always going to be the problem when you get such a diverse group of people together and tell them to play nice. We all have different ideas and attitudes about the game. That’s fine. I am not particularly happy about some of the decisions they made to cement the game against my preferences, but it is what it is. Their game, their rules.

See that’s what drives ne crazy. We have the modes already! People spend hours and hours in the workshop specifically for practicing or goofing off! FFS we even have a “Tinder” gamemode specifically for those who want to socialize. Fans have created these tools form parkour maps to aim trainers and simple puzzle maps. But no uses it! How do you think I got so good with Ball so quickly?!

Then we have ranked for the hardcore players who dream of turning pro, or use it to compete with others in the influencer industry because Rep means a ton in the influencer industry.

How come we can’t have a simple middle ground?!

I stray away from the workshop mode mostly not for me. And Rank gives me actual anxiety attacks that I haven’t experienced since I was a child!

Where is the casual mode? Like wtf?! Where do we go to just play basic Overwatch without these extremes?!

Are people just being selfish and have their own bias to their prefered modes?

Are we seriously just allowing players who reduce others to just pixels on their monitors that exist only for them to shoot at run so rampant adding toxicity and frustration to BASIC Overwatch in the most populated game mode?!

Like wtf is OW2 at this point? Besides a money printer?

We could have one, but according to Aaron he and the team don’t want to do it (yet). He mentioned in the blog he didn’t want to add a “Comp lite” where its comp mode but not for points and then also have Quickplay and regular Comp. They felt it would split the playerbase way too much.

The casual mode is Quickplay as that’s why Competitive was added back in Overwatch 1 in the first place. To allow a mode where players could try hard and casuals could steer clear.

And there’s the conundrum.

The best players, meaning teammates and thusly the experiences, are in Comp. But that’s tied to a numbers system that plays so heavily with your mentality its severly offputting. Not to mention the players who are addicted to it become real jerks because they treat it like some sort of barbaric heirarchy line.

Then QP gets thee absolute worst players who apparantly want to do well in ranked eventually.

Like why is ranked looming so high and heavily on QP?

Why does its influence need to bother its bigger brother of a mode that was clearly what Overwatch was designed for?

Gotta agree - i dont enjoy comp, mostly because of the toxicity and people yelling over comms the second they dont get what they want.

Gimme balanced, fun QP and i’m happy.

So you want to turn QP into the same sort of Hardcore experience that will give you panic attacks, anxiety attacks and raise your blood pressure to a medically alarming level?

That makes sense. I guess you can migrate to arcade once QP gets as Sweaty as blizzard apparently believes it should be.

No no no

I want to jog. Not sprint.

You people are barking at me to sprint to get a good healthy run session.

I prefer to stay away from walking snails and then the hardcore marathon participants.

Not everyone wants to run marathons.

Some of us just want to run and get healthy at it.
