why?
qp has backfill. use it
If it’s a bad map that leaver is a hero Lol
Honestly, at this point, Loki your fault for playing quickplay. That’s just ranked plus. If you want a casual gaming experience, queue competitive.
That doesn’t really add up, because we all have different opinions on what we want to play.
I know you said “if” but, that’s still subjective.
Meh. Opinions are subjective but trends are not. If certain maps/game modes are hated so much I don’t see a problem with letting players choose what they want. If you’re in the minority that likes them that’s tough but we shouldn’t sacrifice the fun of the many to please the few.
Hey, when my choice is Hanaoka, Throne of Anubis and Runasapi, the leave button is the single viable alternative
Well, that’s kind of different than just having an entire session disbanded over someone leaving.
Not to mention, I like Kings Row, doesn’t mean I want to play it the majority of the time it comes up. The variety in maps has decreased and seeing some of the same maps almost always get chosen ruins it for me.
As much as I like Ice cream, doesn’t mean I want to eat it every day. The appeal becomes lack luster.
I know there are others that would disagree, but the original point is about disbanding a lobby over one person leaving.
It’s fine if you don’t like a map and want to take off. But Not everyone feels the same. Why are we making everyone leave? We don’t have a choice in the matter. I don’t really understand why this is even a debate.
I’ve backfilled into in progress games, so I have no idea why the game ends if someone leaves during the map choice. Seems bizarre.
I want to play ranked but my friend is new and he needs to win 50 games.
it also happens in mystery heroes
exactly. I cannot make it make sense
congratulations, we now reached a point where people can cancel games cause they didn’t like the map, eventually theres gonna be like 5+ cancellation till someone gets their favourite map and mode . Quickplay gets renamed to ‘‘QuickDraw’’
At this point you have not entered the game. I imagine they’ve added a new flow in front of the game and then only after map is chosen and it says “Entering Game” is a game actually spawned and backfill can apply.
I guess they need to do some reworking to move backfill into the new flow.
However, having said that, they should just allow map select to complete with too few players and then do normal backfill after entering the game so we don’t have to wait for them to sort out backfill during select.
I get why it is the way it is but I guess my real question is why did it go live like this when it is such an obvious issue.
You could ask them about almost anything they release apart from cosmetics
- why release each new hero completely broken and make the game unfun for a few weeks
- why release heroes that are obviously going to be horrible to play against (mauga for instance) when you know how bad they are
- why release new modes where you have to walk more than 125m to point from spawn knowing that’s just stupid and annoying for everyone?
engagement. they want people to play the new hero. if they are bad on release then people will assume they are worse than they are, even if they receive buffs.
power fantasy. they want the player to feel good, sometimes that is at the cost of literally everybody else. I mean just look at widow, orisa, sojurn, arguably ana.
incentives comp variety by ecouraging the usage of speed and taxi-ing.
those are all design choices, this is not though. this is a technical issue that they did not test as we no longer have a PTR. no one is leaving when they are all in the same office being paid to test it. or maybe they just got lucky when they were testing it and no one dc’d but you would think part of testing it would include leaving to see what happens.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were completely aware of this. In fact, I’m sure of it as they had to implement the game cancel dialog and that was tested I bet.
You are mistaken in thinking this was not a design choice/compromise to get it released for the start of S17.
I also think that their original plan, which they stated in one of their updates, was to remove the grace period at the start of a game for leaving to skip a map and that would discourage leavers during map select as they would get a penalty. They seem to have, so far, had a change of heart on that for now.
By possible forcing an algorithm behind the map selection (like preferring mode and map not played) they leave no choice then to leave when no good maps are there to vote for.
When I see the choices of 2-3 flashpoint + control/clash I leave instantly.
Because non of those maps/mode are worth my time and are just plain unfun.
When escort/hybrid is there too, I vote for it and it mostly gets voted anyway, so I stay.
The chance that I get a map/mode I don’t like is there but atleast I get the chance of playing something fun.
Now if we could remove the roulett It would be perfect.
Please stop doing this - it’s the most inconsiderate of all approaches. Sit out the map select then leave when the game starts. Still no penalty but you don’t send 9 or 11 other players back to the queue.
The problem is that people think they hate things that they really don’t or never tried to like or understand. Every new mode and almost every new hero since release has been met with overwhelming negativity, and it has mostly nothing to do with their objective design. The telling part is that people are less likely to dislike things that already existed when they started playing. They don’t know they’re supposed to hate those things since they didn’t know they were new.
Ye I mean, I must choose between 3 2 flashpoints and 1 push? Better leave.
All modes existed when I started playing. I hate Flash, Clash and Push just as much as the people that have been around forever it seems.
I agree new things are scary because they’re different. But once they’ve been around a while usually that wears off. Hasn’t Flash been around a while now? Didn’t they say 2 years in the VoD? That’s long enough for long-timers to have their minds changed IMO if the mode was any good.
