Wanted to put out a quick q&a question out there. Is not using your perks in a game, either quick play or competitive considered throwing? Thoughts.
Only if itâs a character who has perks worth a damn.
On a more serious note, you wouldnât even know if there wasnât a scoreboard to tell you if perks are not picked.
Furthermore, if you take this into consideration you would also need to take into consideration if not using cooldowns is considered throwing.
Not⌠necessarily? I mean, if someoneâs actually throwing, they probably wonât even have enough XP to get perks.
Iâd say âyesâ itâs throwing, because youâre putting your team at a disadvantage by not choosing perks.
Although in certain situations for specific characters you might not pick a perk if itâll negatively affect your gameplay.
For example, JunkRats âMajor Perksâ might not be selected for âreasonsâ:
-
âFrag Launcherâs projectile speed is increased by 40%â
Reason: The extra speed would throw off muscle memory
-
âConcussive Mine arms .5 seconds after landing, increasing damage/explosion by 50%â
Reason: Canât detonate mines mid-air anymore
EDIT: Ignore that last âreasonâ, I mistakenly though you couldnât detonate mines mid-air with the perk lol.
Not getting perks in the first place is fine, it happens. Some games are just too short.
Purposefully handicapping yourself for⌠reasons? Sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially if your team isnât keen on the idea.
I definitely feel the concept of purposefully not choosing perks could go down like a lead balloon.
In the run up to s15, yeah, I thought Iâd be annoyed if teammates didnât choose perks. As it turns out, though, Iâm not bothered at all. The characters that have powerful perks tend to be strong baseline anyway, so whatever. Obviously, I donât care about characters with naff perks. Iâm not going to lose sleep over them turning down +50% throw range on bear trap
.
In QP, at least, a decent chunk of the match happens before majors even come online, which makes me care less as well.
Mind you, I donât see the point of not picking a perk unless both options have unwanted downsides. It seems like a good way to draw negative attention to yourself. Iâd play it safe and pick something.
Im gonna say ânoâ as some heroes have some pretty underwhelming/low-impact Perks (like D.Vaâs Minor Perks). Real throwing is significantly different than not using a Perk upgrade when its available.
what if you just donât like both perks? are you throwing the game?
Depends on the character. Some have good perk choices at both levels. Some only have a minor thatâs worth equipping. Some have no perks that majorly impact gameplay, so itâs easy to forget them.
My thoughts exactly. Really depends on the Perk itself, regardless of what level its on (Some Minor Perks are more like Major Perks). Would be interesting if you could âskipâ the Minor Perk level and just choose a Major Perk sooner?
it could just be bugged and they cant select them
You can still detonate a mine before it arms for its normal damage and knockback, the arming part just increases those.
Same way Scatter Arrow can still be used as normal Storm Arrows with their regular damage if you just shoot an enemy player with it, or for the scatter if you shoot walls.
If you intentionally dont choose perks then Iâd argue yes.
If you are simply doing poorly and either havent gotten them or just failed to realize your perks unlocked so you didnt pick them, then no.
Yes, youâre not picking a perk is locking yourself out of powerups that help the team, thus youâre throwing.
Ah okay, thsnks for the clarification, I just edited my post.
If itâs done purposely then yes. But, I feel not adding perks isnât always because theyâre throwing.
Stopping mid-fight because you leveled up to pick a perk is sometimes not possible if youâre concentrated in not losing the fight, and if it drags on, you can forget.
And if you rush to pick a perk, thereâs a chance youâll pick the perk you didnât want (or itâs the first time using that specific heroâs perks and you donât know what they do) and then youâre left with an unfavorable perk.
This is a silly question. Throwing implies youâre intentionally losing the match. Not picking perks doesnât qualify as that. No more so than not taking the high ground in a team fight.
Some people just donât like how the perks change the character.
Itâs only throwing if people report you for it. So go figure out.
Also some perks are straight harmful to the character. Very nice design by Blizzard!
I personally would say âNoâ because most perks are only minor buffs and/or are situational so even if you don´t pick them you´re not in a disadvantage or rather you just play the hero the regular way.
False. You put your team at a disadvantage by not have xyz where xyz is an extremely large set of hypotheticals.
Perks reward bad gameplay. They are for stat padding which is mistakes/second feeding ults and other (enemy) perk economy. Itâs a sign you canât kill complete, misprio targets, and waste precious seconds of game time not landing headshots.
Good gameplay is clean in/out with high k/d low dmg low resource received. Getting perks (and ults) quickly typically means youâre bad at FPS fundamentals.
This game is also so incredibly buggy rn it might also be possible they arenât using perks for fear of server crash or other bugs.
