Push To Talk For Console

I play Overwatch on both PC and Xbox. I find that it is very hard to communicate well on xbox, as you can hear players breathing or the background noise in their house. People are usually either not on voice chat or forgetting to put their mic on mute. We need a push to talk button. I use a controller for PC, and i find that it is easy to use push to talk, as I binded it to the left gamepad arrow. It would help a lot for players like me, who want to win on console. Please add this Blizz, it would be greatly appreciated and probably not that much work.

Also use controller for PC. Off topic, I recommend you move that bind away from the d-pad, as you can’t move and talk at the same time. Try Right Stick In. Sure, you sacrifice precision aiming while talking but you can at least you can move and look around…

I use my thumb for the push to talk and my index for the left stick. I then use my middle finger for the left trigger. It works pretty well for me to be honest, but to each their own.

I agree, would be helpful.

This control is there on Consoles. It doesn’t work though because there’s no way to change Voice Chat Modes between Open Mic and Push to Talk on Consoles (blizz pls).

dont…most console mics have a physical switch to allow for outgoing audio?

Pretty sure it’s already in the game.

Yeah mine has one, but I guess since the headsets aren’t all standard, some don’t. :sleepy: Mine has like small insert that plugs directly into the controller which allows me to adjust volume and push to talk without taking my hands off the controller.

mine has a small dial and switch halfway down the wire connecting it to my controller

Push to talk is on consoles.

Obviously it’s not well known.

That being because Blizzard wasn’t transparent to us about it in the very patch notes that they released (in why it’s not well known).

It’s even half-assed on Consoles, literally. As in, though the Control is there, it doesn’t work. It won’t work until the ability for us to change Voice Chat Modes is implemented. Until then, we’re stuck on Open Mic.

It was in the patch notes. How is that not transparent?

That’s what I’ve heard. Sucks.

Here’s the patch notes announcement for the day it was released (March 20th). It’s not there:
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/all-overwatch-patch-notes-march-20-2018/37824

Patch Notes shown for PS4 specifically, also not shown there: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/console-patch-notes/ps4

And, for XB1. Again, not shown here either:
https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/console-patch-notes/xb1

I must have read about it on the forums then. I could have sworn I saw it in the patch notes. My bad.

That explains why it doesn’t work then. Maybe it’s something they were working on and the PTT control option slipped into the patch by mistake before it was ready.

Responses are in paragraph order:

No worries man. I wouldn’t have noticed it either if it wasn’t for me immediately checking the options menu after the update finished on my Console. All the more reason why Blizzard needs to be more transparent to their Console Players! (I have a megathread looming around here trying to get the attention of Blizzard to address our concerns and their lack of transparency)

I can only speculate this bit, but I personally doubt that it slipped into the patch (of course I could be, and hope I am, wrong!). In this same patch (March 20th), they also added the Toggle UI Control to Consoles. This control works fine, and it worked just fine on PC as well, even if one was using a Controller (I tested this myself, so I would know).

I have push to talk set on right dpad (ps4) and it works fine. But my only problem is that it doesn’t seem to work when I’m in a group in the main menu but it works fine ingame. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Communication is overrated.

On eu people rarely talk and still win games.
