Seriously, if junkrat dies while still controlling his tire the tire should just difuse and fall over. How does it make any sense when he’s dead for the tire to remain??? I think this would help punish him for bad positioning like some of the other heroes and maybe require him to use his brain … a little.

He is already being punished by being dead.
It is only going to make it a bad ult if they have to launch it from their spawn.

Junk forfeits control of himself to maneuver the killable (it’s got 100hp) Tire, his Ult is destroyable and he’s a free elim during it. You’d need to give him (massive temporary) damage reduction or buff Tire hard to warrant killing him auto killing it.
Like man Mercy’s lil blaster can kill a Tire in 1 second if she hits her shots.

You don’t need to stay in spawn to be as effective. You just need to position yourself in a way that if anyone approach you, they die to your tire. The mechanic is braindead, and op is right.

What I’m saying is this should force him to be pick a good spot , you know make him THINK about where he wants to hide and press his ult.
yea we call it bad positioning, I dont think I’m asking for much to make him think a little on a good place where he would have less chance to die and get value on his ult.
I think it’s more fun to prioritize between junkrat or tire like it is now,
so the only way I could see this change work is if junkrat flamingo drops his head below the ground during ult to prevent him taking critical damage + apply him a Zarya bubble

Only way I can see this working is if they allowed him to be visbile through walls like sombra can see low health enemies.
We’re talking about Junkrat here, who’s pretty low on the damage tier list. He needs buffs as is. He’d need massive ones to compensate for the massive nerf to his ult the OP is suggesting.

So the OP is mad because they usually are unable to find junkrat before they die to tire? When you do find him he’s a sitting duck; just standing there with his ears plugged waiting for the tire to explode.
Also, tire is easy to kill for something that does 500 damage.
Reminder that the other punishment to a bad tire startup also includes the ability to knock Junkrat before the Tire is deployed both killing him and ruining his Tire before it starts.
That’s enough of the worst scenario here.

if he ults in the open you just kill him right then right there?
doesn’t it cancel if you kill him during the voice line or am i just misremembering. there’s a 1 second window if he does do a thoughtless ult in the middle of the open
Oh you sweet summer child, junkrat IS the tire. The ult is junkrat cutting himself free from the shackles of the puppet he uses to transport himself as a manner of convenience. Liberating himself to be the free flying tire that is always denied in the mundane contrivances of needing to function in the day to day existence.
So why, pray tell, should junkrat cease to be just because you cut down the puppet meant to chain and suppress his freedom?

Every ultimate has a downside or risk to it, Junkrat’s is that he is super vulnerable when using it and it isn’t always a case of bad positioning. Let alone that there also isn’t always an opportunity to retreat a mile out and use the ult there.
Most important: his tire is so easy to kill. Just (learn to) shoot it.
