PTR vs Experimental

What is the point of PTR when experimental exists, at some point blizz said that experimental would be for “Bigger things” while PTR would be for “smaller things”, but I feel like shoving a whole new character or map into experimental wouldn’t rly work. Especially a map since if a custom game is released/saved with experimental on and only the one new map on wouldn’t it not work (for awhile at least)
I mean PTR for smaller things also doesn’t rly feel… right. You have to download a whole new file that’s honestly not that small unlike experimental where it’s just a quick update that’s like 100 MB or something. Idk it feels wrong for PTR to get smaller updates considering you have to download a large file over a small update

Opposite. PTR is for large changes like new hero releases that are more likely to have bugs. Experimental is for smaller changes.

well, that makes me less upset about PTR being useless lol, still confuses me why reworks aren’t in PTR then

Since most of the players across the world have extremely high pin playing ptr, it discourages them to play cooperatively and correctly. That also makes the data unreliable therefore useless for balance decission.

Not everyone has access to the PTR, so minor changes go to experimental so everyone can try it out.

They can’t put harsh code changes in Experimental, like bug fixes and stuff. Experimental is just Overwatch but with these variables instead of those, same operation, different numbers. PTR is running a different code.

From what I understand, PTR is just for features that can’t be put onto an experimental card, usually maps and heroes.

I think the devs said PTR is for bug testing and exc is for balance changes.

The PTR is for testing in regards to things like server/engine stability and large additions like heroes or maps-- historically it’s never really been for player feedback, and hero balance changes on it are only incidental for future plans with the game.

The Experimental Card’s primary function is having players test changes that Blizzard knows they can safely run on the game’s current patch. Usually, it doesn’t have changes any more complicated than what you can make in the Workshop, with the only major exception being the unique matchmaking it had when they tested 3-2-1?

tl;dr : PTR is to test large game additions and game stability with almost no changes from feedback. Experimental Card is to let players test in-game changes and for Blizzard to see what people think or just how matches turn out with them.

PTR it’s more about beta testing, add stuff, remove stuff and breaking stuff. Some freezes, crashes and unexpected things can happen. You make strutural changes in the game and how that thing will perform.

Experimental mode, it’s more like Workshop. They tweak certain things and check how it works, it’s more about checking values. Like size, cooldowns, damage, range, Time of effect and so on.

One it’s about changing stuff on the core, the other it’s more trying to sort things out and how they will perform.

It’s like: new stuff will appear on PTR to test how will interact. While experimental mode will be more towards to balancing.
