Ps5 upgradeeeee

Will ps5 ever get a performance upgrade like the series s/x or y’all just not bothering.

expect that in ow2, at least thats what devs said

Making the next-gen update isn’t as simple on the PS5 as it is on XSX, the devs said this themselves in the recent Q&A. You’ll probably have to wait until OW2.

While a Ps5 upgrade is really needed, as OW on the Ps5 actually has more input lag than OW on the Ps4, I highly doubt a Ps5 upgrade is coming anytime soon.

They aren’t bothering. Wouldn’t be surprised if they planned to, but Sony wanted to charge them some ridiculous amount of money to do it, like they do for crossplay.

As weird as it sounds, PS5 120 fps mode is not in the plans according the AMA.

That’s pretty sad tbh

Can thank Sony for that lmao they’re so unreasonable and anti-consumer, its a miracle they haven’t triggered a backlash/boycott yet.

LMAO WHAT, Ive had a PS4 for 5 years now and their service was much more human than xbox

Switched from xbox when my 2 year old machine broken and they said the part wasnt under warrenty even though it was

Had an issue with my ps4 fan last year and within a few months, I got a replacement. They gave me regular updates and a shipping number to keep track of

Customer service is hardly universal, but a bad experience sticks with a person /shrug, but thats not what I’m talking about.

Sony is the stubborn party preventing crossplay by demanding ridiculous conditions and keeping the playerbase divided.

From a developer/publisher perspective, they’re also an incredible pain to work with when it comes to issues such as what the OP was referring to.

bruhh they haven’t even fixed the flipping rank glitch on console you think they care enough to give us a performance mode

There’s a rank glitch?
What is it?

where you can’t see the rank icon

Ah
I think that was on PC as well (?)
Unsure

yeah they fixed it the one day after they found out on pc and for console it’s been 2 weeks and still not fixed

My guess is that they have to roll a patch and console policies don’t allow that

(Could’ve announced that though)

and the only bug they fixed on console was the moira skin bug so they fixed the moira skin bug over the rank glitch lollllll

The Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S use the same SDK. They literally only had to make a few minor changes and recompile to upgrade the game.

That is not the case for the PS5. The PS5 SDK is completely different is requires a lot more code to be rewritten. That’s why they’re waiting for OW2.

This isn’t a ‘console wars’ thing, it’s a matter of Microsoft’s developer tools making upgrades a quicker/easier task than Sony’s. And it’s not unique to Blizzard either.

EDIT: More detail.

It’s not because Sony or Microsoft charge an exorbitant amount of money for ports. It’s because porting OW1 to the PS5 just isn’t worth the effort.

More specifically, Blizzard currently maintains 4 slightly different* codebases for Overwatch:

  • PC
  • Xbox (Xbox One/Xbox One X/Series S/Series X)
  • PS4 (PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 Backwards Compatibility - PS5 features unavailable)
  • Nintendo Switch

Microsoft’s Xbox SDK allowed them to add support for the next-gen console without having to create an entirely new codebase. That is not the case for the PS5. The separate SDK would require Blizzard to maintain a 5th, different codebase simply for the PS5, effectively supporting a 5th platform:

  • PC
  • Xbox (Xbox One/Xbox One X/Series S/Series X)
  • PS4 (PS4, PS4 Pro)
  • PS5
  • Nintendo Switch

This would not only involve a (reasonably) significant amount of effort to create the initial port of the game to use the PS5 SDK but also more ongoing work for every engine-level update going forward. I guess they’ve already committed to that extra effort for Overwatch 2, but it’s a lot of extra effort just for 120hz/high detail in OW1.

Blame Sony

*Most of the game’s code is probably shared between all platforms. But there are key differences between PC and each of the console platforms, too and these will required different code at the engine-level.

Why do people still buy consoles to play online games?

Sony and Microsoft are charging devs and players for the most basic stuff and in return the devs put console support very low on the priority list.

This is also the reason why there still isn’t any crossplay/cross progression :woman_shrugging:

because not everyone can afford a pc
