I feel like I’ve never played a game before in my life. I have over 230 Hours on Reinhardt on PS4…but on PC I kept charging into walls…my timing is off…I fumble around as if I didn’t know how to MOVE a freaking character.
Please tell me it gets better. Everything feels so stiff. Moving the mouse to look and shield and melee seems fine, but the wsdf , q, e, cntrl, lshift for everything else feels so slow and cumbersome. I’m not giving in to using a controller, that defeats the purpose, but OMG it feels like slow sludgy garbage.
Your input method has completely changed, so it will take time to develop the muscle memory you’ve drilled over the hundreds of hours spent on PS4.
While the downside is that it will take time to get to a point where you feel as comfortable (and hopefully more comfortable) than you did on PS4, the plus side is that the other, more nebulous skills like positioning, game sense, etc, still carry over.
To add my own personal experience, I’m a diamond tank / support main on PC. I went to a friend’s place one time and he only plays on console. He’s ranked silver, but even still I played like absolute garbage and was almost completely useless because I was so bad with a controller.
Don’t be discouraged. You’ll get the hang of it in time.
some people use half controller half mouse, if you only play tanks that should work, and then just keep practicing using the keyboard until it feels comfortable
I suck so much on PC that sometimes I wonder if people think I am trolling. I want to successfully make this transition, but I know it will take some weeks probably.
My other fear is that fact that, unlike console, where everyone should have a nice dual shock 4, PC has so many keyboard and mouse options…ranging in the hundreds of dollars, I’m not even sure if on a pretty basic gaming mouse and keyboard I’ll do better against folks with hundreds spent on peripherals.
I never got into the mechanical keyboard thing. They’re way too noisy for my liking, so I might be a little biased against them.
A good mouse, on the other hand, is a necessity IMO. Luckily, they’re not terribly expensive. A good Logitech will set you back $40-50 and last years.
One last point about peripherals: get the biggest mousepad your desk can fit. Seriously. It’s made a big difference for me since I can lower my sensitivity and not worry about running out of mousepad when I need it.
eh, it’ll just take time to get used to.
OW was the first PC game I ever played, only ever played console, or handheld games before this, so wasd was very weird to me. Didn’t take me too long to get used to it.
It’s understandable. Aiming is easier with a mouse but movement and ability usage are WAY worse with a keyboard than with a controller. It makes tanking a bit of a nightmare if you aren’t used to it. No matter how good you are, though, there are some angles you physically can’t take with a keyboard (you’re limited to 45-degree angles). It’s rough after being used to complete freedom of movement at any angle with a joystick.
They have special controllers you can use that are just a joystick with some buttons on it for your left hand so you can keep the mouse in your right hand for the best of both worlds. Give that a try.
M&Kb will grow on you. Some faster than others! you will develop muscle memory and you’ll think back how the hell did I ever play on console! I promise!
It’s not like keyboard don’t have analogs, you just need the device for it. The thing about pc, it doesn’t matter what input devices you use as long as it benefits you.
If you want more of an analog control on KB&M, you can use a use a game baord such as the following input device:
I use the Logitech G13 primarily for work since it act as my macro boards while allowing me to use the analog to perform rotations, but it seems like Logitech has stop producing it and supporting the device. If my G13 stop working, I probably will make the switch from Logitech to Razer.
Heck, I use my Wireless Xbox One controller to play some games on PC. Might even consider getting a scuff controller at some point in the future.
If you play Rein you could play on a PS4 controller. Of all the characters, he probably requires a Keyboard and Mouse the least.
That would be a crutch, though, it gets much better the more you get used to playing on a keyboard and mouse.
I came from PS4 and movement was the hardest thing to get used to. I’m getting less stiff, though the more I play. Just keep at it.
For aim, you need to look at your DPI and sensitivity, do some research on DPI if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I set mine to 2000 since I don’t have a lot of space to move my mouse, with a sensitivity of 8.25.
My mouse also has M4 and M5 buttons, setting those to crouch and melee has helped me out a lot (rather than using v for melee and ctrl is still crouch toggle, but M4 is hold to crouch which helps a lot as well).
Make adjustments early on. For example, I swapped my Ana’s ability 1 and 2 on PS4, when I moved to PC I kept shooting sleep darts at the ground because I was thinking it was nades. I didn’t fix it, it took me about 3 weeks to adjust. Meanwhile I did the same thing with Lucio and adjusted immediately.
Well, to be honest when I switched I just continued playing with controller.
I later changed to a hybrid setup, left hand holds and utilizes the left side of the controller(has buttons on the back too) while my right hand uses the mouse which has plenty of buttons to map to.
That is one of my favourite things to do ^^
I’m always pleasantly surprised when folks know what’s up.
I’ve heard mentioning that my movement is really out of the ordinary, and though the slow mo thing isn’t very practical it can throw off a players shot when he expects you to move into his shot at full speed.
It’s also nice when my mouse batteries die and I just continue wrecking stuff with just the controller till the match ends ^^
