As long as the pros can run a brawling tank in a dps slot,
They’re going to do it.
And they’re going to run as many healers as it takes to keep the herd of tanks alive.
It’s a much safer strat to run a team of high-healthpool characters that cannot be one-shot and also offer team-wide sustain abilities, over fragile dps who don’t offer either quality.
GOATS and its variants can’t be killed with balance patches. We’re at the same spot we were before a 1-hero limit was implemented, where the meta at the time was running 3 Winstons + 3 Lucio.
3 winston/3 lucio was the most effective team comp because of the same reasons GOATS is meta now. The devs couldn’t get the pros to stop using that comp with balance patches alone - It would have taken nerfing the heroes involved into uselessness to get the pros to run anything else.
The devs had to reshape how the game itself was played, in order to save it.
The tenacity of GOATS is the same issues as “triple Winston/Lucio” all over again. The pros will stick to their guns of comps full of high health pools that take a long time to kill, until either the tank and support classes have been nerfed into uselessness… or until the 2/2/2 lock arrives.

They’ll stop if Lucio or zarya gets nerfed to the ground

They’ve already stopped running it exclusively…

GOATS itself isn’t a bad comp, but a lot of people are just sick of it being the only comp ever played at the pro level. I don’t know if you’ve seen OWL at all in the past 3 days, but GOATS is not the only comp being played.

No. Pros aren’t going to stop running Goats until something better shows up. It’s the same with every single meta.

I dont know if this is true. We saw plenty of non-goats this weekend.

Which they wont do cuz those heroes would be useless outside of goats. Also teams have run 3/3 without lucio, today london used ana/brig/zen.
That’s exactly the problem, though.
Lots of tanks with as many heals as it takes to keep them alive has been established as the most effective comp. If something better comes up, it would be because dps have become so powercreeped that not even a tank-heavy comp can survive… and then it would become pointless to run tanks at all, turning Overwatch into another Call of Duty clone.

More variety this stage than last, still mainly goats. And seems like a lot of the time teams try the 3 dps or 2 dps and lose a fight and just default back to 3/3, or 3 supports 2 tanks 1 sombra.
Some people are so deep in their own perception they can’t see anything else.
Lets start by defining what GOATS is.
Is it 3 Supports + 3 Tanks?
That makes any team comp that runs even a single DPS as “not-GOATS”.
… for now.
In a game that revolves around taking objectives, they just found success in staying alive on the objective to be the most efficient. What we need is more heroes that punish being grouped up too much. E.g. Sombra’s EMP appears to be an effective counter to GOATS comp by deleting all defensive abilities.
Why do they call it GOATS thou. Why not RAMS or BULLS or SHIELDS or TANKS.
The founder was very fond of that animal
I think its the name of the team or something
Because the first team to run it was literally named GOATS.
Pros had the option of running far more overpowered comps in the past before OWL even existed. During beta and launch-era weeklies, in the small brief period we had No Hero Limits (before they made their own eggplant ruleset), they had the power to run 6 Widow, or even Quad McCree. Even when hero stacking was most OP, pros still ran balanced comps that were optimal at the time.
Pros just play what is optimal. Forcing 2/2/2 won’t change that, and it takes time to shift.
GOATs fatigue is heavy but Dive reigned supreme for 5 seasons. We haven’t gotten that far yet, and with all of the heavy handed changes, there are some really strong but unpopular comps that could dethrone it.
GOATs isn’t some permanent thing, it’s just the thing that is currently meta and good. They’ll eventually migrate to normal Comps once a coach finds some unorthodox strategy.

It’s the name of a now-disbanded Contenders team, who stole it a phrase from NBA casters.
NBA casters and newswriters kept making heated discussions about which pro basketball players were the true G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time).
Hasn’t goats been run only on certain points of certain maps so far in this stage of owl.
They won’t play 2/2/2 Ever again, before the enforcing.
Even if goats dies, the replacement is most likely triple dps meta thanks to how they screwed up armor.
The fact is, 2/2/2 right now can’t even work. they nerfed goats in a way that destroyed all the other variants of the meta in the process.
I think you’re overestimating how much healing the tanks need, considering the three lowest output healers are the designated meta characters, and one of them isn’t healing half the time.
The purpose of a competitive game is to play better than the opponent, taking advantage of all available opportunities.
But why do you care?
