Proof Blizzard is boosting players

Start examining peoples profiles. Most of us know it’s already very common to see players who were plat in OW1 now GM in OW2 and they still play like a plat. But you can actually look deeper into the stats on their profile and do the math to see if it even makes sense.

Just played against a cringe moira one trick, let’s take a look at their profile.

OW1 S34 1892 SR Silver
OW1 S35 2003 SR Gold
OW1 S36 2438 SR Gold

OW2 S1 Diamond 5
OW2 S2 Plat 1

***First Blizzard boosting “bug” happens and lasts half of S3

OW2 S3 Peaked GM 5 ended Masters 5, 93 games won out of 181 52% Moira win rate. 181-93 = 88. This moira one trick lost 88 games, won 93 and that took them from Plat 1 to GM5 to Masters 5. If this ranked system was actually a ranked system they would still be in plat 1.

OW2 S4 Blizzard claimed some peoples ranks were higher because MMR was being matched with their displayed rank so, appropriately, this Plat Moira one trick with a 52% win rates rank needed to be adjusted to reflect their true skill; boosted to Masters 2 for doing nothing, and now they’ve fallen to diamond 3 with a 41% win rate.

Great job blizzard. This Moira has ruined over 200 matches so far because you boosted them and they still haven’t fallen back to where they actually belong.

Examine anyones profile and you will find very similar stuff. Probably about half the player base has been boosted.

EDIT: Just played vs a Rammatra one trick in diamond. Examined his profile…230 lifetime overwatch hours, was gold tank in season 1, silver in season 2, silver in season 3, then he gets boosted in season 4 to MASTERS 3 and has dropped down to Diamond 2. So how many wins did it take him to go from Silver 1 to Masters 3? NINE. They lost 255 games this season and won 264. This game is such trash.

They actually would not be in Plat 1, you just do not understand how ratios work. OW1 GM represented the top 1-2% and Masters the top 8-10%. Note not a specific skill level but the skill of those percentages.

When the new OW2 players came in they were worse than those people and far worse than Blizzard expected. They assumed, for some reason, an even distribution of where the new players would be. This did not happen and they were overwhelmingly Bronze and Silver.

Now with the game growing by 4-6x and the overwhelming majority of these players placing several leagues (or 1000-1500 SR) lower than expected the ratios were no longer accurate. Therefore in order for Masters to represent the current top 8-10% players has to be shifted up. This happened and now people seem confused by the results.

Now because of these new players the skill level of the top 1-2% and 8-10% is lower than OW1 but the job of the ratings is to make sure those ratings are reflecting those percentages.

That math probably checks out even if your skill didn’t change.

We’re missing a lot of information including games played in previous seasons, winrates, etc. It also looks like they were climbing and improving in OW1, so combine that with the boost from adding inexperienced players to the game(shifting all mid and higher SR players up a bit) and it makes a lot more sense.

And people wonder why profiles need the option to be private, sheesh. Idk if you did it or not, but that profile stalking and assuming is one step away from using those assumptions to harass that player with in game.

They gave an interview to Emongg and Flats awhile back as well as doing an interview on the SVB Podcast talking about the changes back when they were fresh in S3. I basically just told you exactly what they said and the motivations behind doing so. You could watch one of the 1 hour videos to find the timestamp but I just saved you an annoying click.

I still think its hilarious that they thought when adding 20m new players that those players would even be distributed in anyway close to where the current 5m were. They were obviously going to be far worse.

They ended up lowering starting mmr from I believe gold to now Bronze.

I mean. This is in the dev talk articles. The one on matchmaking from April 20th confirms mmr is now in bronze for new players. It used to be in gold.

I didn’t think it was necessary to get my point across

I agree and I think the climb to plat 1 they obtained in OW2 is fair, but as I pointed out going from Plat 1 to Masters 5 for winning 5 games makes no sense and it happened in the season blizzard admitted there was a boosting bug.

So why did only some people get this boost? I sure didn’t and know many others who didn’t.

I’m a bad person for looking at information somebody chose to publicly display? I did not post screens nor their name for a reason. I’m not harassing anyone.

How do you think they make the queues fast in higher ranks? They boost players so that higher ranks get more people in them… so that GM players don’t sit in queues for 10 minutes, they queue for 2 mins.

The problem is that this happens in all ranks, so Golds have Bronze players boosted into Gold who can’t aim on Ana… so you get stomped in Gold. You have Masters players who have Golds who are playing Ana and can’t aim… you get stomped in Masters. You have Platinum.Diamonds who are now in GM and you guessed it… they play Ana can’t aim properly and you get stomped in GM.

The Overwatch team are the most incompetent developer team of a Dps game in the 21st century. I cannot imagine this happening in League of Legends, there is no way this would ever happen.

I finally made it to masters (previously plat) we didn’t even get the boost really on console that I know of, people still want to gate keep higher ranks I suppose even for those of is who got better.

Also there not saying your harrasing anyone postrockowl there saying that’s step ine cause the first thing people do before they get super toxic especially in a losing game is check profiles before they go off on someone saying stick to your 1 trick you belong in silver and blah blah blah. It’s one of the first steps to super toxicity it adds “fuel to the fire” if you will.

This player was clearly improving or was placed below their true rank in ow1. Like I said, combine that with the free sr adding new players granted(mostly to players in the middle), and you have a recipe for climbing incredibly quickly.

I did not say this. I actually pretty explicitly stated that I wasn’t saying this. I said that these are the exact sort of assumptions that cause the need for private profiles.

Or maybe 5v5 (and ow2) is different than 6v6 (and ow1)?

No one takes QP seriously though.

It’s pretty common now. I have quite a few screenshots of people that were hard stuck gold in OW1 but are now GM or something. The best one was a mercy one trick going from plat in OW2 Season 2 to Top500 n season 3 lmao

So different that it only takes 5 wins to go from plat 1 to masters 1? Makes sense

Same, it’s so common now I’m not even phased by it anymore. First few I saw, I was thinking oh for sure Blizz messed something up, but as more and more popped up I realized this is just how it is now. Rank inflation is so in right now.

I dunno. I saw someone who was hardstuck plat in OW1, then plat for 3 seasons of OW2, then with only 6 wins, SIX WINS, in season 4 they jumped all the way to Master 5 from Plat 3. 6 wins and they skipped Plat 2, Plat 1, and ALL OF DIAMOND. That seems kind of insane to me.

I know that when I inspect (aim botting) DPS, it’s usually people that were silver/gold and are now master/gm (going up by 1-2 ranks per season) so there’s that aspect, too.

Sounds like you got lucky. If you were having trouble with a boosted OTP Moira, imagine how much harder it would have been with a OTP Moira at their actual rank.

Also, if this Moira is so much worse than her rank indicates, how did that cause her to ruin a bunch of games? If she was boosted beyond where she belongs, shouldn’t she be losing a lot?
