This season, I decided to do a little experiment. My main account, this one, is in mid silver. I feel like I have gotten a lot better. I created an alt account, and did this season of competitive. I went 9 and 1 on my placement matches, and guess where I placed. I placed in very high platinum. (2957). I have been able to get to diamond, and play well and hold my own. I have realized that, in fact, the matchmaker is set up so that it is almost impossible to climb. It directly tries to sabatoge your games, and keep you in the rank that you place in. On my first account, I first placed at 1874 or so. On my other account, I placed in 2957. That’s more than 1000 Sr higher. But I still can’t climb on my main account. I can have a 14 game win streak, then a 12 game loss streak, then a win or two, then a few losses, then more wins. The matchmaker tries to set people up in games where they are as fair as possible. This is stupid. The teams should be random, and the better players should be able to climb, but because of the matchmaker, without playing hundreds of hours, it is impossible to climb. I am so close to quitting this game. It’s insane. I have pretty much given up on comp, and am just playing tracer and widow in quick play. Honestly, quick play is more fun and has better matches than competitive. That’s just sad.
Can’t confirm. I was Master most of the time, then I trolled myself into Plat and climbed up to Master again.

I had an alt account which was in gold.(im diamond).
At some point i climbed past my main account and nearly got Masters.
I also want to add that my very first rank was gold. At some point i was nearly Bronze.
I think it’s possible to climb, it’s just super grindy, and you probably have to play thousands of games, so you can make all the “troll games” unsignificant.
Unfortunately there is no easy way, I’ve seen a GM soldier main lose a gold game on stream, playing soldier. So if you really are a diamond player, play about 1000 games and you’ll be in Diamond with your main too.
I first placed at 1644, which is low/mid silver. After 2 seasons being hard stuck in silver, I finally reached gold, and some point in season 9 I got to plat. Matchmaking is really punishing though, you never know what to expect. Whether it’s a Symm OTP or noobs, or 4 DPS specialists. I can confirm though that unless you’ve reached a state where you can hard carry everyone in your rank, you’re most likely to rely on flukes to climb.
