I used to love playing Overwatch Ranked but I’ve come to hate it a lot.
My high is around 2800 but I’m currently sitting below 2000 because I fill pick and don’t get to play heroes/roles I like.
I have a few problems with Overwatch. The main one being the matchmaker. I routinely get put onto teams with people who clearly don’t really
know what they’re doing. I know people have off days sometimes, but theres a difference between having an off day and just not being all there.
Like watching a friendly Reaper panic and run when a Winston jumps on him.
Theres also the troll problem. I personally feel like I run into them a lot. They’ll just sit afk in the spawn, only moving so as to not
get kicked, then theres people that insta-lock a hero (usually Doomfist, Widowmaker, or Torb) and then contribute nothing to the team to the point where even the enemy team call them out.
Smurfs are another thing but they seem to be fewer and further between lately.
For ping purposes I play on the Asia server since I live in Japan. I can try the NA server but playing a game like Overwatch on a minimum of 150 ping is just
not fun. The in-game LFG is useless to me because even if I try to join the one of at most 5 teams in it, I don’t speak Korean and have no intention to learn it (because Japanese is obviously more relevant to me). Another thing that seems to be only an Asia server thing is that nobody ever uses the voice chat to team coordination is already going to be abysmal.
However seeing as I am below Master in rank and not a successful content creator this will likely fall on deaf ears, especially to those at Blizzard.
I know for a fact that I am not the only one who feels this way, but since the majority of people that feel the same as me are all plat and below, nobody seems to care.
TLDR: The matchmaker is horrible, the in game LFG is useless and all higher ranked players, pros, and Blizzard hate low ranked players.
The matchmaker is fine.
The community that fills that matchmaker pool is the problem.
Toxic kids and adults. Throwers, trolls, and all kinds of leavers from the guy bailing on you at the end of the game to the guy bailing on you before the 1 min mark to force a game cancel. You got people playing drunk and high on drugs. You have people not warming up in quick play/arcade first. You have people dead tired after a long work day, you have people tired because they have been playing 12+ hours. You have people that just don’t care anymore or farming for golden guns. People that refuse to join voice, or don’t speak in a competitive setting.
Need much harsher penalties
The matchmaker is horrible if it can’t even get these throwers and terrible players out of games with good players. You see it all the time, seems to me that it’s the main frustration with the entire game.
It cant be fine… Even blizzard admitted this.
The matchmaker doesnt know what hero you are going to play.
So it has to use SR/MMR of your account.
While the difference in heroes could be insane.
A GM widow could be only gold on genji or all of the tanks etc…
Lots of people are filling or just playing a random hero without having mains.
So the matchmaker just cant work.
And the proof is also very obvious. Look at higher tier matches. Does players are playing for a win and not just farming gold weapons etc… They still end up in one sided matches often.
Also l looked yesterday to the last coaching video on youtube of Jayne. Who coached a master ana. That game was worse then lots of gold games i have seen.
No grouping up. People just running in and getting killed over and over again. Bad positioning, dps not playing with the tank etc…
Next to not having all the other things master games should have like good coms etc… How can these players be so much higher? Yes maybe they have a bit more technical skill but there game knowledge is worse then most gold players.
(especially look at the zen and both dps)
Pick DPS and play it. If you’re good at it, you’ll climb. Screw your team comp. Focus on yourself, and how you can outplay your opponents, rather than how your teammates are playing
If matchmaker or Blizzards algorithms to determine how good someone is really worked. Then 7 out of 10 matches would be close evenly matched games. That doesn’t happen its more like 2-3 out of 10. It might be working as intended, but it doesn’t do a good job at all. Games are never even for me one way or the other. So either MM stinks, Or Blizzard is stupid at determining how good people are. Or both.
If you want people who know what they are doing, you have to climb higher.
You flex because you decided to flex, nobody is forcing you to play heroes you dont want to play.
I dont know about situation on asia servers but i guess its similar to europe maybe? On EU servers, there is not much communication too snd language barriers. So we havent really better situation in eu. Nothing can be done about it probably, its about people who play the game.
I have a lot of close games. Yes some games are kind of stomp but its because team have same skill but they for example build bad comp, or simply do more mistakes and other team not.
Matchmaker cant predict how will people act in the game, its just works with numbers.
Can’t really climb higher when 90% of my matches put a troll or leaver on my team. I flex because if I don’t nobody will play the needed roles and we just get a 6 dps comp again.
I dont understand, so you are telling me enemy teams have good comps while your team dont?
Keep in mind that you are main constant in your games. Enemy team has actualy bigger chance to get leaver or troll because they have 6 random players who can be leaver for example while you only 6. Dont over do it with flexing.
I am not sure if that will be any help for you but if you have time check my other topic and look at games and heroes i play there.
You could see that i pretty much play what i want and i switch only when i know it will greatly help team. I mean its ctitical to have main tank for example.
I would suggest to you going into games already decided what you would like to play. And switch only when team would lose with what you have. Play your mains, ypur best heroes, flex only if you feel like you dont do your job or its critical change. Dont try to be good guy for others. Its not worth it.
It woukd help to see your games btw, can you record ? So i can give you better tips.
again, if I play what I want to (assuming some DPS insta-locker hasn’t taken it already) the team comp is awful. I fill because nobody else seems to be willing to play other roles.
I also never record. I used to try to stream but my PC can’t handle playing the game and trying to record/stream at the same time.
Then try to play with awfull comps, your way isnt obviously working. Try roadhog or mei. They are extremely strong below diamond. And they are not so mechanicaly hard.
