It’s ridiculous that I even have to say this but Blizzard has quite a disposition against Capture the Flag in Overwatch and it’s blatantly obvious.
For starters, they take every single opportunity possible to completely stick their middle fingers up to anybody who enjoys the game mode.
Exhibit A: During the Lunar New Year event, it was only on Arcade for 1 week to my knowledge. It’s stupid because the Lunar New Year event’s main attraction is wait for it…CAPTURE THE FLAG. It was released into the game originally during LNY. Blizzard removing CTF during LNY is like removing Mei’s Yeti Hunt during Winter Wonderland or the Archives event during Archives after a week. It’s just not cool.
Exhibit B: 9 times out of 10, whenever CTF is featured (which is rare) on the Arcade, it’s Ayutthaya Only. Not only is Ayutthaya possibly the worst CTF map (in my opinion) it gets really old really quickly and after like 3-4 games the map becomes very boring. There is no variation. Whatsoever.
Exhibit C: While it is true that CTF needs a little work done to be ready for this, the game mode is still not in rotation for Quick Play. Sure it’s not the only Arcade only game mode, but Elimination or Deathmatch wouldn’t really fit inside QP anyway. The point I’m trying to make is that it could be implemented but it hasn’t been.
Sure, I only have a few points for this argument but it’s pretty hard to deny that Blizzard just doesn’t care about Capture the Flag at all and that is a real shame. I’m sure I’m not the only player who enjoys CTF and I’d personally like to see Blizzard make more of an effort to include CTF in the game.
Let me know what you think, whether you agree or disagree. I’d love to see your opinions.
Can we all at least agree on the harsher restrictions they have been imposing on the mobility heroes and carrying the flag? Cause being able to Winston jump in your ult with the flag straight across the map in 2 sec, or grabbing the flag with Sombra and porting back to your own flag was just utterly broken.
I do agree that those two instances you mentioned are very broken and do ruin the gamemode. I’ve never personally seen them, but if it is possible to do both of those (and more) the gamemode is very broken.
I’m not saying CTF is flawless in it’s current form, but if Blizzard gave it a little TLC, it could be a brilliant addition to Quick Play, in my opinion.
I don’t think CTF should be in the quick play rotation. The game wasn’t designed for CTF in the first place so it’s not very well balanced for it. To try and balance for CTF they had to make special limitations to some heroes. Ex: Lucio can’t wall ride with the flag and so on. Many people who don’t enjoy CTF will hate feeling as if their hero is limited while lugging the flag around. Just how this community is.
If CTF was in quick play, it would be a cluster fudge of people non-stop leaving when the mode loads.
Lucio already cant wall ride with the flag. Any skill that increases movement speed will drop the flag. Only way to move faster with the flag is if there is a lucio on your team who speed boosts you. Lucio himself cannot speed boost if he is holding the flag.
I do like ctf, but I wouldnt want it in quick play either. However I would like to see it in arcade more often, and not always the same 1 map.
I have made so many threads about CTF. They even told me they were going to fix one issue (people being able to just hold flag for an excessive amount of time to grief) and then did nothing.
Perhaps adding it into Quick Play without a way to choose which gamemodes you’d like to play would be a bit troublesome. This still doesn’t mean it shouldn’t become a frequent (or even permanent) addition into Arcade. Mystery Heroes has been in Arcade for as long as I’ve been playing. Nonstop, unless you count the brief period when they needed to fix it and it was removed temporarily.
CTF casual only lasted for a week. Competitive CTF remained for the whole event.
Also there is no other event mode that you can have in the normal rotation all year long and you can also play it in private games.
Because it’s the only mode that has this map except in private games. I think at least.
It needs A LOT of work. The mode is absolutely not ready to be put into the game as a regular mode and they’d have to change almost everything to make it really balanced.
Also the majority of people hate CTF (as it is now at least) and it shows because nobody plays it when it’s live. Before removing casual CTF during New Year you could legit have over 10minutes of waiting. It was brought down to 5-6 after that (which is still A LOT). And also just by looking at the forum (which isn’t really a good representation of the community as a whole but you know it gives the general idea)
I don’t know which rules you ate referring to exactly but if you’re talking about CTF 1,0, even though it was really more fun to play, it was the most unbalanced mode in the whole entire history of the game which also means it could never be put into the regular rotation like that.
I liked your post as a CTF Grandmaster who has felt screwed in the past, but I have to give credit to Blizzard for featuring CTF multiple times in the last 3 weeks; even if it IS Ayuthaya only. My only wish is that they just end rotation and allow you to play all Arcade modes at any time so I don’t have to wait for Total Mayhem and/or CTF.
