Private profiles

why is this even a thing???

To reduce toxicity from players. Rank shaming - no matter what rank they are - was always the case. People love to shame people for any particular reason, that’s why this was implemented.

ain’t going to let some toxic person see my profile. Just looking for insults

Yeah try being Masters in one role and having another of your ranks in Plat and go a good 10 games without someone accusing you of being boosted

I mean nowadays I’m just straight Diamond, but that used to be the case and I’d often temporarily turn it off when I would play Support because I got sick of hearing that bs

It’s a thing because control freaks used to insult and bully their teammates in an attempt to make them obey their demands to swap and/or to unfairly scapegoat someone.

Basically it’s a thing because the community proved that it’s too immature to deal with public profiles.

Can I ask why you are against private profiles?

Private profiles, in my opinion, is one of the best things to happen to this game.

Probably profile stalking. I love looking at public profiles and seeing who they play.

Probably because of the EU privacy thing

profiles on Steam also became private by default a while back too for the same reason

I find it weird when streamers go through public profiles, and go way down to season 5 where this person was maybe plat, but are GM now, many seasons later, then claim that person is boosted.

… because they were plat in season 5 and have climbed every season since.

Ugh, I have a friend who does that and I began stop watching his stream because of it, he is T500 Zen & Moira…

He looks up someone he don’t recognise every match and then gets annoyed if they were platinum back 10 seasons ago

if they lose he puts them immediately on his avoid list… I kid you not lol.

Because players would demand other players to play their most played heroes or else they would start throwing and report them for throwing. So to encourage flexibility and give a way for players to play the best hero available for the scenario regardless of whether they necessarily mained that hero in the past or not

Rankshaming was a nice side thing for them, but it really doesn’t matter since players will still rankshame others by saying “you’re probably [rank] player” whether you have a private profile or not and besides just flame you for various other reasons instead. Maybe it hurts less since it’s not about something concrete that they mald about

Why not? I tried to have public profile, only to be told, that I should switch to support everytime I went for dps cause “you have most play time on Mercy”
Like seriously? People can´t play here more than 1 characters or what? I was not abused since I switched to private.

some people will shame you no matter what so what difference does it make, im annoyed by this cus i can’t see what the enemy is playing

edit : + they made it private by default they should’ve let it public and let people make it private if they wanted to

EU laws require things like profiles to be private by default.

Not this again.

People are softer than they used to be. Now when a 14 year old looks up your profile and talks trash, people actually take it seriously, actually believing it instead of ignoring the abuser. They hand the abuser more power.

Now they just hide the profile entirely, even from people that could really use that information to help your team win. They hurt themselves to avoid abuse.

Fine, if we ignore the toxicity… let’s say I’m hiding from my enemy what I play so they don’t presume and attempt to counter me as the match starts.
