I think it’s quite unfair that people that put their profile to private don’t have to have some kind of repercussion, as when I see someone else criticize someone for their stats when they have a private profile is kind of unfair. I think it would be better if people who had a private profile could only see a portion of other people’s profile or just not be able to see other people’s profile, I know it is a little harsh in a way for the people that have private profile, It just seems a little biased that they can hide their profile but be able to look at other people’s profile. This would apply in a way where if someone has it set to friends only, they would be able to see their friends profiles, but if they have to private, they wouldn’t be able to see anybody else’s profile, or only a skinned version (like top 3 heroes, sr and hours played). WhatsApp does this with their last online status, if someone has their last online hidden, then they can’t see when anybody was last online, so I thought this could apply in Overwatch in a certain way with private profiles.
Might work, but it also might stab you in the back.
People on the enemy team shouldn’t be able to see it. Or there needs to be a “team only” option.
It’s not unfair at all. If you set your profile to public you are giving everyone the ability to view it. That’s what public means. It doesn’t mean public minus people with private profiles.
Thanks for being the forum dictionary.
Unfortunately you seemed to have missed the entire point of the OP.
Oh no, I didn’t miss it. I just completely disagree with it.
Why would Blizzard punish players for something they enabled by default? Seems counterproductive to me.
We, the forums, really need to get off the public V private debate. Nothing is gonna change, and whether someone is private or not doesn’t make a difference.
The reason I often see people put their profiles public is so they can feign moral superiority over those who have it private. It’s their way to perpetuate toxicity.
If you don’t want people looking at your profile, then don’t set it to public. Otherwise, you just sound exactly like the type of person I described above.
I just have it public so people know what i can play and what I’m comfortable playing, I’m not trying to be morally superior here, and I’m trying to be toxic towards people who have private profile. I’m just suggesting a new idea.
I agree with ya fully. I mean I 100% want private profiles to rot away but if you’re going to be a coward hiding your stats then you shouldn’t get to double dip. I’m fine with anyone seeing mine if they show me theirs. That’s called being consistent not a double dipper.
I think this idea is fantastic, but, then again, any idea that encourages public profiles is a fantastic idea.
I am currently transitioning from off-tank to DPS. My profile is public. I have experienced zero toxicity from teammates via LFG or random when selecting Ashe.

Point in case.
I’m not feigning moral superiority. I have nothing to hide and implore others to review my profile if they so desire. I have the mentality of those hiding something have a reason for it. Because that’s usually the case. Why would anyone hide game play stats? That’s absurd to even consider as valuable information.
That’s why you call people names who have their profile on private right? You literally proved my point. There is no justification for toxicity. You think you are better than others just because you toggled a switch but you aren’t.
The point being they’re hiding game data so they’re ashamed of it. Or they’re hiding something that would be a red flag they’re cheating the system like having a hero with a near 0% win rate then others with a like 80% win rate over many games. There’s really no other reason to hide it. If they’re being called out for being bad by their equally bad teammates then they’re ashamed of it. There’s no other reason I’ve heard that doesn’t point back to shame or nefarious intentions. People tend to show what they’re proud of.
I hide mine so I don’t have to deal with toxic people like yourself try to tell me what to play in spawn room before the game even starts. I know best what gives me the best chance to win. You don’t.
You on the other hand, have just spent 3 posts being toxic towards everybody with a private profile just because they have a private profile. You’ve proven my point post after post after post.

I’m not being toxic in the slightest. I’m just saying that those hiding stats have bad intentions as people who hide things generally do. Take that as you will. I prefer seeing data and numbrs to taking others’ word. You are an exception as I’ve seen your rank before hiding it but everyone with a private profile wants ya to believe their X rank. I don’t even look at profiles in game anymore as out of 5 teammates odds are 4 have it hidden.
I think you should shame and emotionally tear down someone who criticizes another’s stats while they have a private profile.
I think this would be the only way to incentivize people not to have private profiles.
Not saying they should do this, idc about seeing people’s stats.
Public profiles were added due to European privacy laws, just deal with it.
Honestly, it seems fair.
