These have to be the WORST feature EVER introduced to this game. Why were they added? Because people with 2000+ hours on mercy and a diamond portrait were insecure about their SR? It ruins everything. They need to be removed

I believe the opposite: I think profiles being manditorally public in the first place was the worst idea they could have had. How could they not see that players would use it to shame / demand players into playing certain heroes? It’s the same reason they don’t have a scoreboard: because the bad-apples of this playerbase can’t handle that responsibility. If they gave it to us, we’d only abuse it.
If people weren’t complete holes towards each other, then I’d be all for open profiles and scoreboards and current in-match stats and things. But too many people who play this game lack the better half of social skills.
And for anybody (not targeting the OP) saying “players having private profiles is why I can’t play well with them and that’s why we lose”… Stop looking for excuses and things to blame.

ok, I’ll turn mine off again. There is no shame in turning it on or off. Why do you want to know it someone has 2000h on Mercy? It’s just used to bash people, if you really want to build a team, just ask rather then looking on there profile and assume you know want everyone want to play
It’s the best change that has been added in the game.
Why?
- No more profile shaming. (“Great. We have 2 Mercy mains.” )
- No more false flagging one trickers before the match has started anymore because they could see it on their profiles.
- No more “You have played hero X the most. Pick hero X or get reported for throwing.” (Aka Flex players who tends to pick Mercy because no one else wanted to play healer.)
And in return do we lose the ability to see which heroes the enemies main and which heroes our teammates can perform best with, but this can always be asked. LFG is also an option.
That’s not a bad trade imo.
In overall do I really consider this one of the best changes this game has had.

Because we were harassed in-game nearly every single time we played especially if we weren’t on Mercy to the point where many of us had to get a new account.

If anyone is to blame is the community itself. Always belittling heroes that they don’t approve of just because it doesn’t "fit their meta " or perspective in general.
If two mercy mains’ profiles are private, that doesn’t change the fact that there are still two mercy mains. Also, you can’t check your teammate’s stats, and also, everybody else with a big voice in this community thinks they’re horrible
Mine is private just to add to posts like these.
They amuse me, and it’s always a great laugh to see people really reaching

Why do you need to check everyones stats before a match starts? Honestly, what does it gain you? They are going to play what they want regardless, unless you try to strongarm them into a role they hate by threatening a report. Why does it matter at all? You literally can’t change anything with the info on their profile.

Well you have yours private because that’s what it defaults to. That’s the reason.
I change depending on my games. If i get a lot of comments on my profile i make it private untill the next scrim where i need to make it public again.
