what is the ult used for: well, its used for keeapping those bullies off your point, or, most commonly to have Winston reset the jetpack and escape, and then get nearly no value out of it and become unable to do the only thing Winston is good at… diving and killing someone relatively quickly and then diving away. My point is that more often than not I use the ult so get hp back or to get people away from the point for a bit, and after this is done I have probably used only 1/3 of the ult and a single thought crosses my mind: “can I be Winston again?”. it is undeniable that Primal (that’s what I call it) is worse at dive than base Winston. Ults should be designed to help the character with their role and not to make them unable to perform their ideal role, and instead become less useful for about 5 seconds (can mean the difference between life and death in an OW match). therefore primal rage should be cancellable once the player no longer sees use for it.
It’s not worse if you know how to juggle with him.
Exactly. Like he said, Winston’s ult actually has a steep learning curve.
I disagree. shield dancing is faster and more effective, and let’s be honest, while he has a lot of hp his hitbox is even bigger than normal, and (due to the lack of shield) is much easier to focus.
If anything needs a cancel its Whole Hog… basically a death sentence
this too, though your mostly supposed to solo ult with it.
You do realise that primal rage instantly gives winston a free jump and 1000 HP right?,there should be a price for that.
And no,don’t you dare bringing up nano as an argument,it is an ultimate that is built around simply making the boosted hero stronger, while primal rage is not.
(also boost only gives 300HP,and requires line of sight from ana etc. it is simply not as easy to use under pressure as primal rage)
so the price for using it is dying or becoming useless for 5 seconds…
Lucio’s ult has no downsides and momentarily makes the team able to tank almost anything whilst not increasing anyone’s already huge hitbox.
Also BOB has more damage output and hp than PRIMAL Winston, and does not make Ashe any less effective.
It’s a transformation ult. None of the others (Genji, Mercy) have a cancellation option so it wouldn’t make much sense to give Winston that big of an advantage.
But Genji and mercy get nearly no disadvantages from their transformations. and remain very capable of doing their jobs.
Winston also doesn’t have any real disadvantage, just a learning curve from hell. It’s purely disruption focused and built around not killing but tossing everything you can leap at away from the point, off cliffs, wherever you want. If you want to kill with it you need to use a very specific method to keep on one target, otherwise, just go ham and toss people while jumping around with that faster cool-down.
but Winston’s job is not to "toss people, it’s to jump on them and kill them in about 3 seconds then jump away.
That’s in his base mode. In Ult mode his job is to screw with enemy lines as much as possible.
But Ults are supposed to aid the charater in performing their role, not swich roles entirely. People make a comp with Winston as a main tank because they want a backline disrupter who can get pics and kill supports, not a “Tank who tosses people”.
He disrupts back lines by landing in them, and throwing everything into disarray, either through a single kill, or by hurling everyone in every direction, or by using the potential juggling of his ult to separate an enemy ult entirely from the fight. He can do a lot of things beyond just kill supports. Toss the Rein away to remove the shield, bump ulting Zen away to deny heals, that sort of thing.
ahh I see. still, It would be a nice adition to make it cancellable when there Is no longer use for it. and Winston is pretty balanced, but not yet perfect and the mettas have not been nice to him.
Ofc lucio’s ult protects well,it is literally made to do it.
Winston’s ult is about mobility and harassment, the added HP is just a bonus to help him survive, the ult is not built around Winston’s survivability.
