We often play our own Deathmatches in the Workshop with my friends. We were playing on the greenscreen recently, it was awfully stupid but fun. And after that I have this idea to search for code to be able to play Deathmatch in the Practice Range.
Unfortunately, I did not find anything like that.
I wonder why it is not possible to select this map, while at the same time the greenscreen is available for selection. The
Practice Range looks like a map that would be great for a Deathmatch with a little tweak!

The Workshop maps are generally available for all modes since their geometry is very simple, but since Practice Range isn’t a simple map, it’s not as easy to add support for other modes.
You can literally create a deathwatch into any map, even a flat area with no structures. Could you explain what’s so complicated for the Practice Range compared to any map (roof tops in King’s Row, inside the theater in Hollywood, and other complicated areas/maps)?
While you talk out of your derriere, the easiest explanation is simply because the devs don’t listen to what we want and therefor haven’t included as a an option for deathmatch. Sometimes it’s easy to make excuses for people when the truth sucks.
Workshop devs are honestly the most communicative people in the Overwatch team and have consistently done & added what people have asked for.
The reason there’s no practice range for death match could be because it’s a complex map, but in my mind it’s probably because they never thought about it; it’s designed for practicing and I’ve never seen people ask for it to support deathmatch until now

When I say the Workshop maps are simple, I mean they are literally flat planes. This makes it super easy to add spawnpoints to the area, since in Deathmatch they can be laid out in a circle, and in Team Deathmatch, each team can spawn opposite the other over an invisible line. Practice Range requires more effort from the dev team, since they have to manually place spawnpoints for Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. Potential other points of modification include: Training Partner console, supporting higher tickrate (it has been suspected that Practice Range servers run at a lower tickrate since there are no stakes within the mode), decoupling the map from the mode to begin with, etc.
In addition, the dev team has to ask themselves whether or not putting effort into something is going to be impactful, or if their time would be better spent elsewhere. In this case, I can count on one hand the number of people I’ve seen asking for Practice Range to be a Deathmatch map, whereas other features seem to be much more desired.
