Keeping the soon to be released Rammatra as the figurehead of the team compositions I’m about to propose, I wanna think about what he provides as a tank.
Functionally he’s a hodgepodge of Sigma and Doom while providing a newer take on some abilities. I’d see him taking a more aggressive, brawly role in team fights, doing better gaining and maintaining the momentum of team fights. With that said, I believe enabling him might be something to consider as well.
Typical Brawl: Rammatra, Mei, Ashe, Lucio, Kiriko
The idea here is to take advantage of Rammatra’s generally “Snowball” like kit. Provide a lot of speed with Lucio so that he can stay on top of the enemy. Mei would be effective at slowing down stragglers while also using her wall as a means to stop fleeing enemies. Ashe and Kiriko could possibly swap out with any High Ranged DPS/High Mobility Support and still be rather effective, however Kiriko’s Suzu and Ultimate both provide Rammatra with a lot of survivability.
Tempo Rush: Rammatra, Genji, Reaper, Ana, Mercy
Taking advantage this hero’s new coined term, the point of this team comp is to work around the cooldown of Rammatra’s transformation. Genji and Reaper would rotate in a flanking formation around Rammatra, full engaging on his transformation. The Ana would prioritize keeping Rammatra alive while Mercy would assist the DPS in getting picks. Nano targets should be Blade or Annihilation, however it is unknown as of yet if Nano would boost the damage from Rammatra’s ultimate. Mercy could be replaced by Kiriko in the event that Mercy is unable to be effective, or Lucio in the event that Rammatra needs assistance engaging the fight.
Fight Club: Rammatra, Hanzo, Junkrat, Moira, Kiriko
Using Rammatra as the bait, this comp waits for the enemy to engage on him before collapsing on the engaging targets. Hanzo and Junkrat both provide large area denial as well as ranged pressure, while Moira and Kiriko focus on using their resources on keeping the Rammatra alive. As a note, I believe this kind of team composition to be the most difficult, requiring a high level of team work and player skill. However, with Rammatra’s transformation allowing him to turn the tables essentially, it would allow for a sense of surprise attack.
There could be more, and these comps could be doo-doo, however they’re a good idea to get the vibe of how this new tank is going to play. I see him being a better JQ, really good at brawly and engaging fights, but he provides the utility to have that better mid-fight, giving better poke pressure before the team fight erupts.
