Post Season Hero Unlock

Is there an official confirmation on the specifics of how former season heroes are unlocked?

Specifically what does a player have to do to unlock:

  • Junkerqueen
  • Sojourn
  • Kiriko

…after season 1 is complete and season 2 offers a new slew of heroes to acquire?

Pay money in the shop seems likely.

Any specifics released?

Also sidebar, you can bypass the “20 characters” thing by hiding letters and numbers between angle brackets like this:

Just make sure you exclude symbols and spaces.

Any citation on this? Pretty sure I’ve seen the “hero challenge” stated somewhere in a news article, but I don’t think I’ve seen any claim that they’ll be selling heroes.

Junkerqueen and Sojourn are base roster. I am not sure how we will unlock Kiriko, but I suppose with or without their communication, we should know within the next 30 days. Which is when that question becomes relevant, as is.

Technically you unlock them by logging in during Season 1.

The wording behind their unlock suggests they are ‘free’ for the season.

This is true, but as NDC put it in pretty certain that “hero challenges” have been discussed in an official capacity generally speaking. The specifics of which I don’t believe are revealed yet.

Putting my money on something between $5 and $10 for each post season hero.
I sincerely doubt they’d miss out on milking future players dry without understanding that this will create new player attrition.

Pretty sure they’ve said they would sell heroes for the same cost as the battle pass.

not sure if it was Jon Specter or it was Mike Ybarra, but one of them tweeted about it a few days before launch

Per Blizzard:

Complete challenges or buy them. Pick one.

I feel like the challenges are going to be designed to push people towards the store… Just a feeling though. Since the weekly $0.60 is meant to be a bit tedious.

It remains to be seen, really. The FTUE challenges are pretty reasonable imho (literally just “complete games”).

We’ll see what the Kiriko challenge looks like.

Looked it up, and it does seem like there will be a free and paid method of hero acquisition after the season ends.

In detail?

On the subject of post season:

I’ve read and heard a streamer say that prestige bp levels carry over to the next bp. I haven’t seen any official statement that says that.

So, is it true or am i being gaslit into playing this more than i would like to?

Pretty sure that’s a lie, but we’ll see, nowhere have I ever heard that from Blizzard or in-game.

This is untrue…Junker Queen and Soujourn are part of the base roster that new players unlock as part of the FTUE, at any time during any season.

Levels beyond 200 are banked for next season. Prestige levels (81-200) are not.

The text strings re: banked levels are already in the game client.

Yes, but watch the “free” method be unreasonable and frustrating to encourage purchase.

People are already speculating, and making up dumb things. I saw someone somewhere say it would only take 20 wins or something. Like, are kidding me?

Last month, we were having these exact same conversations with Kiriko. “Oh, she’ll be unlocked at tier 20,” and “it will only take 5-10 hours to unlock her” people were saying.

Well, Blizzard isn’t that generous. They want to sell heroes now, and anyone who believes it will be a simple challenge you can knock out in an afternoon or two is a fool. It’ll be more like, “get 100 environmental kills as Lucio,” and “do a cumulative total of 50,000 healing in a single match.” Stuff that the average player might not be able to achieve.

After all, a business needs to make money, according to everyone who parrots this on these forums. If it was something simple that didn’t take too long to do, would you rather just do the challenge or spend 10 bucks on it?

The point will be to frustrate players until they feel coursed into purchasing the hero.

They’re not by my understanding. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but it’s not that levels beyond 200 get banked. I think it’s when you buy tier skips that get you past tier 80 (Because you can’t skip tiers beyond 80)

So if you’re on tier 70 and buy the extra 20 tiers, you’ll be put at tier 80 with 10 tiers banked for next season.
