Levels honestly don’t give any information anymore. There’s so many smurfs so a bronze could be a platnium, and having one plat border doesn’t mean anything if the rest are bronze, so it’s just useless information.

Why do people get mad at level shaming? The one who is shaming is the same skill level as the one being shamed. Also it doesn’t make any sense. Time spent vs skill level is not a linear relationship - never has been.

I am definitely in support of this.
We already have hidden profiles to protect ourselves from online abuse and bullying in the game and on forums / reddit and other platforms. So it stands to reason that Hidden Portrait Level should follow as well.
I have seen players hurl abuse at players who have spent (a lot of) time in game by belittling and rank shaming them. It is totally unjustified and utterly reprehensible. The irony, of course, is that the bully is probably playing on a smurf account and may have even more hours in game than the guy who is playing on his/her single account.

Portraits should be based on the rank. Levels should just be a private thing because they are meaningless.

No. Don’t make trying to find who’s Smurfing and who’s not even harder than it already is.
If you’re getting bullied for your level, just report/mute/avoid that player and that’s the end of it.
Blizzard has developed those tools abd let’s not have the disaster that were Private Profiles happen all over again.
Imagine having an ugly bronze border in 2020. Resulting to alts to pretend you play less, or because you got banned for being a piece of dbag ingame.
That is the true pathetic. Be proud of high level.
At this point the devs are going to hide everything. Toxic people will find other ways to be toxic anyway.

100% true, but that didn’t stop blizzard’s previous various shortsighted attempts to curb toxicity.

No, it’s not. It turns out, people suck.
I’ve heard crap like “Oh, you’re a Gold Border and still in Plat? You’re such a trash player.”
Of course though, they don’t say it quite as nice. I can’t exactly swear on here.
Flex that you played a game released 4 years ago without being banned. Like most low level accounts. Usually they’re players who lost their original account due to stupidity and toxicity. And are still toxic.

I’d rather not, really. I’ve heard ‘gold border hardstuck diamond/plat’ forever, but I just get thicker skin.
Just report toxic people. This game should not be anonymous
I’d rather be able to choose them, and have achievement based portraits, similarly to how they function in Diablo III
Thats all fine. I was directing it more at the people who easily could have a high level account if they didnt keep getting banned etc.
But to add, overall its easier to have a fresh account than a very high level one. Anyone can buy a new account at any time for cheap. Getting into very high level and behaving decently enough (and avoiding false reports), not so common.
I could personally not care less if people see my gold border or not, but I can definitely understand why some people who play a lot but are still in a low rank may want to hide it.
I’ve definitely had a few people complain about facing off against me simply because of my border as they think it’s “unfair”, and honestly people need to stop thinking that level = skill. I’m not a GM player, so people shouldn’t feel defeated simply by seeing my player level. The same as people shouldn’t latch onto a person who is in a low rank calling them garbage or w/e insults they can come up with,

Sure as long as the hiding/private option is OPTIONAL and they don’t just remove the portrait feature across the board for everyone permanently like they did top 5 heroes chart

Platinum or Diamond portraits in Bronze matches should just be automatically banned. Either they deliberately threw to stay in Bronze, exchanged accounts, or should be re-evaluating their lives if they truly played 5,000+ hours and are still stuck at Bronze level.
How about just mute, report, move on because they’re being pathetic? This actually makes it easier to tell who’s toxic. Why would you want to get rid of a good tool lol

There aren’t players who have physical limitations that still want to have fun, there aren’t players who don’t have good hardware that still try their best, there aren’t players who just play casually and don’t feel the need to grind constantly daily learning the ins and outs of shooters and who may come from a different gaming background. Nah, none of these people exist. They’re all just throwing and need to be banned.
