I’ve had it with this Portrait Level abuse in this game.
Where someone sees a player with a Silver, Gold or platinum portrait. So if they are on a team with those players, they try less and expect to be carried. Or if they are on an enemy team. They spend the entire time hunting that player down. Regardless of swapping characters.
I’d like to see an option where we can turn our portrait to a Generic “Blue” portrait like we see in Overwatch 2 Beta Testing.
Thank you.

Down for this. Portraits draw so much flak. Why do I need to avoid chats just because I bought the game 3 years ago and played regularly?

Blizzard sees this as an opportunity for you to be ashamed of your account level and would rather you buy the same exact video game again.

I’ve never heard of targetting a player because of their portrait, seems like paranoia. I often kill the same player over and over but not because I am hunting them, they are just stupid and fall down on their own.

People play video games all of the time and often those are doing it for streaming purposes. Nothing should be there to discourage a player from being here for hours on end. Promoting a game on a live-stream or doing it for downtime.
- Player streams the game all day. - Trying to start a channel.
- Player is on seasonal break from a job. (oil fields, mining operations, logging, farming).
- Player is on an extended bedrest from a major surgery.
I respect a player that is here to enjoy what gaming has to offer.

Nah.
Flex what you got, there’s no need to be ashamed. No-one that matters cares for this type of pettiness.

If one is so concerned with what another is doing in their life then perhaps they’ve not enough going on in their own.

big agree here. I played on a 15-20 fps laptop until I reached level 300 and as such I got stuck in bronze. Now I have a decent gaming pc but still dont have the motivation to make it out of bronze since people troll me for being almost at the silver border

People will just abuse the ones that are visible.

Maybe I’ve grown a thick skin but I don’t understand how anyone can be bothered by someone else pointing out the obvious, which is the level you’re at.
I genuinely don’t understand what’s making you feel so bothered by that? So what, you have a certain border and are in a certain rank? What does it matter, it’s a game. Let them ridicule themselves by trying to make themselves feel better and failing.

Sad times we live in when players have a problem with other players playng a game more often. Although, both players apparently like the same game.
Instead of thinking “wow, we both share interest in this game and this person has invested much time in it.” they choose to express negativity… great.
Idk if this helps you, but I admire higher levels than mine. I think every earned star is the way to a brighter smile.

Calluses don’t form overnight but they most certainly do form when the skin is provoked or agitated enough. The same goes for jaded people. We’ve been provoked so many times, that it’s become just another day.

HEH, I agree! Yeah, i mean everyone can be “immune” to comments one way or another.
Yes, I play Dead by Daylight. That game is ultra toxic and salty.
But… when players are changing their actual behavior because of someone’s level on a game. Some discussion is needed.
The enemy team shouldn’t be only focusing one player because of level. But they do. As well as team mates should NOT be throwing their game, because they are expecting someone else to carry them.
I guess what I see is. The portrait level is having a major impact on game outcome. Because what players perceive. is forcing their subconscious to do things, that otherwise they should not be doing.
An IRL example. I OWN a red sports car ( I really do). because it is a favorite color of mine. It has a loud exhaust system on it and when i drive down the interstate. Police point their radar at ME, even though I am not speeding. My friend has a blue sports car, same model and year. They never look at his car.
I do not speed in any vehicle because I have a CDL and cannot be caught speeding, BECAUSE a “10 over” violation would put me OUT of my CDL.
When I drive my FREIGHTLINER Semi Truck (a truck is 10x louder than my Car). Police rarely bother me, unless they want to do a random DOT roadside inspection. Even though that truck is bigger, more dangerous and sporting 8" exhaust pipes and has Thundering Jake Brakes on it. The police don’t bat an eye.
The point is; perception and subconscious human responses aren’t helping this game when it comes to portrait color and I believe that this becomes a problem, due to how matches are blended with players of different levels. I am not a pro by any means. But this is bad behavior coming from players.
Nope it happens sadly,
i personally just respond with “Lul” and Block/Report/Mute

You forgot Diamond portrait!
I get that a lot, from many different players and for many different reasons.
Like… “How are you Diamond portrait and only GM in one role / not T500” and how i’m “hard stuck”. No one ever bothers to look further than that.
Anyone with more than 2 brain cells would see that i’m not doing more than placements in forever (with the exception of a few seasons). I never tried to be higher other than in the few seasons I played more and stopped as soon as I achieved what I wanted, and I always did.
Same goes for the “do you even have a life” and “you’re probably one of these fat couples” remarks, when playing with a friend who has a gold portrait.
The level, portrait border and hero play time are some big motivators for me to keep playing and play specific heroes in QP (if I play that, been playing mostly Mystery Heroes since the Role Q came out).
People always find a way to insult anyone just because they get annoyed, while failing to recognize that it really doesn’t take that much to have a Diamond portrait after the games lifespan. It’s about 1h/day of playing. I just never really dropped the game, longest breaks I had was when I wasn’t able to play because of work or travelling.
I personally am fine with my level showing, I like the Diamond portrait and I don’t really give a damn about any stupid remarks cause… after all the sad ones are the people complaining about how someone else spends their time.
To get back to your point… I would take it a step further and make it more like in Diablo. Where you unlock these profile borders too with reaching certain levels and paragon levels each season while also getting special portraits for achievements or through promotions and you can choose which frame you are using.
That way you could show off achievements, hide your level and profile if you don’t feel comfortable or simply just choose a frame you like.

Can I ask in which rank this happens? Because I cannot for the life of me remember seeing that happen ever in Plat and above. Not to any of my friends.
I have never seen someone go out of their own way because another player on the team just so happened to be a higher level than anyone else. I hear the occasional “X border, stuck in X rank” when people get frustrated with themselves but never have I seen anyone either throw my game, nor have I ever seen anyone get focused by the enemy because of their portrait…
This is just a little ridiculous to believe.
Well, yes. I can understand if it’s about personal attacks by people standing in front of you, face to face.
But I don’t understand how someone on the other end of the line, behind a screen, someone you can’t even SEE, is able to effect you like this because they point out your level in a game. I don’t mean this in an offending way, I just don’t get it.
