Why can I do this all day on other games but not on OW.
Im 3150 or so btw
Overwatch is generally a harder game when it comes to aiming. Characters have different hitboxes, moving around fast etc etc. You just have to find the right settings for each hero and keep practising.
Doesn’t cod have some sort of auto aiming going on? Saw a video of a guy shooting to the right of a guy and missing, then changed to a certain gun and shot in the same spot and it hit.
Auto aim only on console
Your mouse settings could be set out of sync with your resoloution/pixel count.
You want to run the correct resolution for your monitor, which is likely 1080p. Deviating from that will cause math issues with how pointer position is calculated.
Sometimes, if you mouse settings aren’t right what happens is it becomes impossible for you mouse pointer to land on certain pixels, because of how the position is calculated.
Most heroes in OverWatch have the same movement speed. Use this to your advantage, it means thier paths are predictable so if you’re a McCree main, you’ll notice that often times moving your Hero with the target (aiming with WASD] as opposed to moving your mouse to track can help a lot. Getting really good at being able to WASD track when appropriate and mouse track when appropriate will help you great lengths with becoming way more consistent. Not necessarily better or more accurate but much more consistent, which is what is needed as a base to start building accuracy.
Move your mouse as slowly as you can. If you can make it move pixel by pixel without having to strain, then your sensitivity is good. If it is very very difficult to move your mouse one pixel at a time, your sensitivity is too high.
Disable any and all mouse acceleration. It doesn’t build skill correctly and performs needless additional CPU cycles and messes with muscle memory. It’s just bad. If you’re used to playing with it, just try to switch it off, it’s only tough for a couple days you’ll gets used to it in no time and noticed you’re swing accuracy is awesome, you’ll be able to bang off 120 degree pans and have the reticule right on the important bits.
Set your DPI to 750 and windows mouse setting with the slider in the middle, at 6 with mouse acceleration turned off. Set OverWatch mouse settings to 1 and move up in .5 increments until you’re comfortable, going no higher than 7. 5 is where most folks hover.
Make sure your FPS is atleast 60.
Disable V-Sync; it adds significant input lag.
It’s really soupy at first, I know but you’ll get used to it and it just feels easier after a while.
Having a 120 fps monitor with a card that can push over 120 fps is a really good spot to begin, however it is not needed.
its the hit reg of the game, its a lot more generous than OW
you can do that in COD and other games, but not in OW because the movement and hitboxes in other games is linear compared to OW which is super dynamic.
heros have different hitboxes, and movement abilities in OW making the game much more dynamic than regular shooters. there is almost no verticality in other games compared to OW
Also the hit reg is much more generous in other games.
Your aim is the same, the games are different
Train your aim against proper, well trained players. Fight against players with better aim and gamesense, so you’re forced to adapt; that’s what helped me improve my aim.
It’s called aim-assist. It doesn’t aim for you. All it does is slow your sensitivity a lot when you get close to your target. At very long ranges you can notice the crosshair move slightly with your target if they barely move.
Yet, at close ranges the default settings tend to actually impair your ability to track close range targets because the aim-assist lowers the sensitivity way to much.
This was solved in COD by having low sensitivity marked to the ADS button, and hipfire have very high sensitivity.
Pretty much every game since 1990 has used Raw Input as the input method. Few games expose an option to enable mouse acceleration but I’ve never seen any instance where it’s enabled by default.
And in a related note, while in a few cases if you’re trying really hard to match monitor distance movements (which is a very uncommon thing to do), changing the windows mouse sensitivity slider to 6 accomplishes nothing because this is not applied to raw input data.
Also many mice benefit a lot more from powers of two for the DPI setting. Values outside of 400/800/1600 may actually result in interpolation by the sensor in order to function. TBH I’ve never heard of a single person who’s used 750 for their DPI.
Setting the slider position to the middle applies a 1:1 input ratio for the mouse laser.
That is entirely dependent on the laser hardware installed into the mouse.
There are mice which will not let you adjust to 800 DPI because of the laser/diver relationship.
This slider only impact the sensitivity in the windows desktop. This is a post processing step that is applied to the cursor itself on the desktop and does not change the data received from the sensor for the raw input APIs. This slider has zero impact in games.
