i was playing comp and im gold 5. I won 5 games and it ranked me to silver 1. Ummmmmmm errrrmmm is this a bug pls im so sad i thought i shouldve ranked plat.
How many did you lose?
Also, gold 5 to play is about 20/25 wins, without losing. So even more if you lose games.
if you win like…5-13 is understandable since u lost more than u actually won. The most you can go to rank up is 5-4, otherwise you stay the same or derank
Blizzard uses a “skill based SR” system.
You can win all of the games you play but if you are winning with a KDR of 3/12 each round you’re not going to be getting as much reward as a player who is 15/2.
Likewise, you will have 2 ranks. Your visual rank which is what you think you are, and a hidden SR which is your “real” SR.
Depending on your stats and game history the game estimates where it thinks you SHOULD be and will naturally home you towards this rank.
This is very notable in decayed accounts, Smurf accounts, or throwing accounts.
Both of these have been in since ow1 competitive., and weren’t removed with ow2.
This is not supposed to be the case anymore. The current system is only supposed to care about wins and losses. But considering the bug-ridden history of this dev team, there’s likely a slim yet non-zero possibility that a performance based metric is still in play unbeknownst to the devs.
I think this isn’t true now either. I believe they changed it so your SR and MMR matched, but considering the dev team’s record…

my assumption is you aren’t playing better than other players of your heroes in those matches. you might win but if i do nothing all game and win vs i carry my team with 2-3 picks every single teamfight them my Rating will adjust accordingly.
