Because there’s nothing that keeps widow under control anymore well except another widow… of course we’re talking about GM… Diamond widows and below aren’t much of a threat.

Pros have a deeper understanding of the game and certain heros they master, however they are still human. They have things that frustrate them, biases, and different views on what balance is. Also on top of this, they have concerns with “balance” playing out so they’re less effective and possibly losing their job. I do think pros input is valuable, but people shouldn’t forget that they are just people and their word shouldn’t be the words of a God.

There is always a meta but this one has been the most frustrating for them cause there used to be simple counterplay for that kind of widowmaker team killing shenanigans but that doesn’t happen now due to brigette bodying dive heroes with ease and the lower grapple CD which makes her too slippery to deal with.

I love Widowmaker and play her a lot! She is my most played hero.
but when she becomes a must pick like Tracer was it becomes an issue.
Before Brig, Tracer was so dominate that games were decided by who was the best Tracer or enabled her the most.
Widow is in the same situation right now like she was in season 1/2ish… She kind of controls the game and it’s pretty unhealthy…

They prob dont want 1 dps hero to be a must pick. The only real counter in pro play to a widow is your own widow.

Why widow though ? Honza is the real culprit, imo. Widow kills high priority targets and Honza kills all the rest, first and foremost those that want to get closer to widow.

But this is just wrong. Her 8 second cooldown is effectively a 10 second cooldown with a 5/6ths of a second cast time, and up to 1 second reel time. It doesn’t go on cooldown until the reel animation ends.
Not to mention the total unreliability of the ability in general. In fact, Widow players in OWL think it so unreliable that they have resorted to using the grappling hook in unconventional ways – they aim at the ground only a few feet away and use the same slingshot technique they use for airshots.
The fact that Widow has a grappling hook every 10 seconds isn’t strong, it’s the fact that there’s always a pocket not to far away. Which at the highest level of play, is supposed to happen.
I think will see a much wider variety of DPS played when the damage falloff buffs that a lot of heroes got go live. Mei and McCree especially.

Whatever the case may be, she’s getting nerfed this upcoming patch. Double (triple?) nerfed actually – other hitscan gets a falloff buff, which means not only are they more lethal, but aim punch is more severe… and she’s getting falloff on her SMG now…
First just let me say that I am definitely not complaining about Widowmaker. Having said that, I don’t think being “high skill” should ever be an excuse to allow an overpowered hero to stay overpowered.

Just because they’re a “high skill” hero, that doesn’t automatically mean they should be dominating at a higher level, because if that was the case, why pick any other character at all outside of those high skill characters?
Ana is high skill, yet she is currently suffering.
Brigitte is low skill yet she is able to dominate in non-competitive play.
The thing I would complain about when it comes to widow is her grapple hook that really lets her just get out of trouble so easily for a sniper, and the fact that a high skill player (lets say in this case pro players) can consistently pull off headshots with no counter play or way to react if there was no warning of her whereabouts, sure shields are a “counter” as long as the shield is alive and the player is behind it, but after that, it’s headshots all around.

Anti-Widow people have been coming out of the woodwork since the start of Season 10.
Pro players having opinions, and casters having opinions, just become supporting evidence for them.
