Please understand that 20$ is the standard for new players

It most definitely wasn’t by ignoring it. I was around when microtransactions really first started to take hold. There was a strong sentiment in the mid to late 2000s that it was fine as long as it was cosmetic only. At the time it felt like developers were toying with the idea of pay to win microtransactions.

It’s also worth noting that the monetization for games that worked in the PS2 generation wasn’t going to hold forever. Game development costs raised exponentially, the shift to multiplayer focused titles meant they had ongoing server costs, and the box price of games was exactly the same as it was for NES games. Something was going to give. I actually think this is very preferable in a lot of ways to the box cost of games raising to what would be prohibitively expensive levels.

Yep. Its nuts. But they are used to it.

I heard theve been sending out surveys again about pricing and value… so theres some hope?

But those other games reward you more then 60 cents a week worth of currency for paying their game

Well yes, if the competition is making a killing bending desperate people over, of course we would want to get in on that easy money.

I really don’t see this as a way to encourage people to buy skins.

Yeah i meant to say with the discount, not without. That’s my bad.

Valid point. But most people dont factor in “how much does this game give me to play” prior to dropping money on a skin… they are in the habit of buying their vbucks or whatvever for the skin. they dont say “well they gave 1000 vbucks over the last 3 months of battlepass-- so im okay with spending more money”

Their justification is “i want it” thats it.

All that said- blizzard really needs to put some currency in the pass. Souveniers are a joke.

They do cause you farm 10k credits you might throw in 5 more dollars for the skin, it isnt an all or nothing game which blizzard wants to make it where they give you scraps that you have to farm for years that you might get a skin. It is like income tax when govt had high taxes they raked in less money when they lowered taxes they made more money, if it is feels reasonable people tend to throw more money at it whatever. The ones that throw money at what ever reguardless are drones in a cult fad and they wont change

I feel like there HAS to be some kind of extra thing they’ll be used for in the future because right now they feel so incredibly pointless.

Yes. I would love to play Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild(And I don’t want to pirate it), but I haven’t done so because it requires a Nintendo Switch and the only game I want on Nintendo switch that game. Now lets say someone doesn’t have a phone or a prepaid phone plan they would have to factor in these costs if they want to play the game.

Just fork over the cash or spend eternity trying to get an overpriced skin for free.

Nope. Its jus a motionless emote holding up an item. A battlepass filler.

As it stands the weapon charms are a joke too— but allegedly theres supposed to be a weapon examination feature thats coming (was in the trailer for the game), where u can examine others weapons and charms. That could be cool once theres way more charms… or maybe other weapon cosmetics. But rn they stink too.

If you choose not to buy the battle pass in OW2.
In apex, you can buy the battle pass every month and have left over 300 credits left over for skins + loot box + materials.

I have 3k crafting materials and I’m level 150 so… I dunno what to say maybe I was very lucky or you were extremely unlucky.

Just a suggestion, but you could rent a switch. It might just be my library, but they rent out consoles and games for 2 weeks at a time. Could be a way to quickly pick up and finish the game.

different luck, probably. I have four sets of heir loom shards. I literally only play one character.

But I don’t want to just rent Breath of the Wild. I want the game around to play over long term. If they had not reverted the phone requirement for legacy players I might not be playing today since I don’t want to pay about 30-40 per month for a phone plan and a few hundred for a mobile phone just for one damm game. Especially when I have been a very well behaved and loyal player for years and this is the only account I ever use for overwatch. This requirement would basically be punishing me for the bad behavior of others.

I mean, take Fortnight. A legendary skin is 2000 v-bucks. You can get 1000 for $7.99. You can get 5000 for $31.99. So, $16 if you buy only just enough and $12.80 if you buy in bulk. Either way is still cheaper than $20. Plus Fortnite gives you lots of opportunities to earn things.

If Fortnite is the gold standard, Overwatch 2 is still extremely overpriced.

Last time I bought a League skin, it was not even $20 dollars… it had pretty new animations, VFX, and SFX. If I wanted to buy an OW2 skin, it’d be $20+ dollars and I get new arms to look at. And that’s not even mentioning how I actually get a chance at more skins and other cosmetic goodies just from leveling in League. OW2 monetization is in no way fair or reasonable so let’s not pretend like it is. Nobody is saying everything should be free again, there just needs to be a better balance between how much you pay to how much you can earn.

This.
I really don’t see the point of people playing the who is the most evillest of the evil corporations like some sort of a trading card game when they are all using the same exact predatory tactics with slight differences.

If you feel like ow2 is predatory be angry about it, be vocal about it, but by diluting the conversation with never ending comparisons to other non-ow2 games which are 5% more fair you are just making your message a lot less impactful.
