Skill rankings matter a lot. I honestly think its a fair system
Performance based SR is more about keeping the truly good players away from the general population.
There is no performance-based SR from diamond onward. At those ranks, all that matter is your own winrate.
Up to 3000, however, you need to get your average stats up to a certain standard to climb. Winning helps, but it’s half winning and half keeping your stats up. And I don’t mean just “get gold medal”. I mean like, eg (not a real data point), “Your Reinhardt need to block 10k damage per 10 minutes on average to be gold” or “Your Sombra need to hack 20 targets per 10 minutes to be platinum”.
Up to diamond, you are fighting mostly your own bad habits. Getting your numbers up is a matter of being more efficient, and because of how MMR works, your winrate will float around 50% regardless of what you do anyway.
I don’t think you realize much these two contradict each other.
So the next game I start as Winston and switch to Rein to end the match, we win, but I get 6 SR or some stupid garbage because why?
I have no clue.
The next game I start as Rein but no healer so witch to Widow, -25 SR.
I must be bad hue hue hue
Yes.
I mean, there is a problem with PBSR. Not in every match your numbers can be high, because it all depends on your teammates and the enemy team.
Example: I played Zenyatta in Numbani. We rolled through the enemy team on Attack, I spent some time on fire, but my numbers weren’t really high. In fact, they were way below my own average, so even though I did what definitely was enough to win the attack, my stats didn’t show it.
In Defense… well, I basically spent four minutes sitting on the payload, waiting for the enemy team to actually perform one coordinated attack. This didn’t happen, so obviously my stats were even worse after that part of the match. I got zero deaths overall, some eliminations and a decent amount of offensive/defensive assists, because I use the Orb of Discord and Orb of Harmony a lot.
I got 17 SR for this. Was I surprised? Not at all. Is it unfair team-wise? Not necessarily, because other members of my team were doing more.
But the thing is, because of the role I had, I couldn’t do more. Yeah, I could switch to another DPS and join the carnage, but then it might turn out that we actually needed this little bit of healing, for example.
Another thing is, PBSR stands a bit against switching heroes. I am getting focused or countered heavily, I switch. When I switch, I get less ultimates (because of the time needed to build one, that is), that converts to less damage/healing/other stuff my ultimate does, and that means lower SR gains in case of a victory and higher SR losses if it’s a defeat. Maybe the differences aren’t very great here, but it’s noticeable especially when you switch to a hero you only use to stall the last point in the map. For some reason, ranks of Diamond and above don’t really get punished for that, while below it happens.
So yeah, even though I think that the performance based SR is not a bad idea in theory, as you should climb faster when outperforming others and go a bit lower when underperforming, in practice it will always be heavily dependant on other people. Which… kinda stands against personal performance.
The next match, we lost and as I started tank but then switched to heals, I lost 30 SR because well you know my stats were bad.
So.
Go performance based SR. Back down to bronze I go.
Throwers in the next match. Wow, I am going back to bronze tonight. Man, I won 200 sr last weekend and now losing all that and more. Not my fault either. GG
PBSR don’t check for individual match stats, but average stats over time. What it is really checking is for consistency on numbers. Higher ranked players execute more consistently than their lower SR counterparts. There are some silver players that have highlights that are crazy good. The issue is that they are not capable to deliver that kind of play all the time. Meanwhile, a Diamond player may be more contained, but is always the last person to die, are consistently getting first picks, and get their ult every fight. And most importantly, they do that every single match, with the bad days being the exception.
I know many people just see the immediate results (ie, “I went 200 SR down today”, “I climbed 100 SR today”, etc), but over time it balances out. If you improve as a player, your SR raises. You don’t, you get into “elo hell”, which is just another word for the rank you actually belong.
removing PBSR will do more for ranked than 222 role lock ever could.
you live and die by the SR, whether you flex or one trick.
if flexing is good it brings you SR
if one tricking is bad, why are we rewarded with bonus SR for our high skill
skill means nothing without the win
PBSR is fake SR
All the high level players are happy with matchmaking big shocker
Draws should BE NO SR LOSS FFS
Twice now I have had draw but lose 10 SR like seriously
Draws don’t change your SR at all.
This post is just a ride to read ngl.
Honestly the best advice I have for you is “git gud” as memey as that sounds and stick to what you can actually play instead of flexing onto characters you can’t.
You also may have found your rank. There is always a leeway of a few hundred SR in either direction, but it sounds more like you just need to practice and get better.
Or group up and play with people in your rank that you work well with.
Next game I chose my worst character, genji, won the match, and gained "6 SR.
Wew.
edit: forgot the mention that we had 5 dps at the beginning of the match so I switched of tank lolol
Matchmaking is GUD
I don’t know “people”, I work 60 hours a week and solo Q.
Find me one person like that in masters lmao.
