Please. Stop. Flagging

Either let us see who is flagging the posts, or else just remove the flag system.

This week the flag system is basically the new downvotes. Literally any post that is an unpopular opinion or people dislike, immediately gets flagged and hidden. Flag system has basically lost it’s meaning now that people are just using for downvotes and not really getting punished for false flagging.

So maybe it’s time we can see who’s pulling the false flag clownery around here. I feel like a large contribution to why people are flagging so much is people know they won’t get caught and people won’t know who did it. The power of anonymity is a powerful one.

If need be, we can restrict it to trolling or so forth, so people can’t default to that all the time. Or else, just remove the flagging system. It has no use if it’s just a fancy downvote button that never actually does what it’s supposed to do.

Or they could just not have the post get automatically hidden after X flags. If it needs to be hidden make it such that a moderator must do it manually after seeing the flags.

Okay: let’s say you know who flagged said post. What now?

A lot less people will flag if they know others will know they flagged it.

Because now when a post gets hidden by flags people will check who flagged it, and people will see who is breaking the forum CoC.

Pretty sure moderators can already see who flagged posts (I know for a fact they can restore flagged posts). What are YOU going to do? Flag them back? And honestly, I hardly doubt something this small would stop false flags.

I’m skeptical if that would work honestly

Just making posts not automatically hidden is the solution in my eyes

I am down with it because I never really flag anything. So… We Gucci.

I am just super curious who flagged my random Brigitte post. I understand some of my posts, I genuinely do… But that one puzzles me.

No kidding. I knew that removing downvotes would be a bad idea long term since flagging just takes its place, albeit in a much unhealthier form

They been slacking recently anyways. Some stuff stays flagged for days. Thank jebus for all those layoffs

Only if this new “feature” comes with a count of posts you’ve flagged.

Has Blizzard actually “un-hid” a post before?

They unhide loads of mine

Well Sundays are a working man’s time off, gotta give 'em their rest XP

Yeah, all the time. If it’s obviously false-flagged, they tend to unhide it

If they aren’t putting penalties on people because of it, I doubt they’re going to make any changes now since they already know who is doing it. And showing the name is only going to escalate the flagging war.

Personally I think they should bring back downvotes.

While I don’t care one way or another, I’m not really seeing the benefit. I don’t think it’ll deter as many people as you might think.
