Please remove hidden MMR in rank. It doesn't make sense

I’m not talking about the rank bronze silver diammond etc. but talking about HIDDEN MMR that doesn’t show in the game.

It’s so dam annoying. I’m so tired of playing against top 500 and GM in Diamond lobby. This doesn’t feel right. The matchmaking should be based on THE RANK ITSELF. I don’t understand why they add hidden MMR into the game. To protect new player?

For good player, the game will put you into gm lobby in diamond form.
For bad player, the game will put you into a underrate rank teammate or enemies

If the game will consider the Hidden MMR ,So what’s the point of RANK that has shown in my profile?

I think MMR is common among online games. Maybe I’m wrong.

If you are playing console I think with the ban wave, that Diamond might be top 500 right now (not on console but did see a Reddit thread about a Diamond player waking up yesterday to being in top 500).

On PC that is less likely but I would say it is common to see a GM Tank be a Diamond DPS, as an example. I would not let those title cards intimidate you and think nothing of them.

You’re not wrong

As for OP….SR (rank) barely measures anything…just means you’ve won/lost a certain amount over some arbitrary amount of time

MMR (which is very similar since it no longer includes player performance) is at the very least measured over recent games…so it’s somewhat better

Not only are you not wrong
But its also hidden in most games

On PC, there is an hidden mmr system.

  • If you’re diamond, but you’re playing like a gold. > The game will make a match with the players that are in same level as yours which (diamond form, but gold level.)

  • If you’re diamond, but you’re playing like master-gm. > The game will make a match with master-gm skill level (diamond form, but master level.

This system is designed to prevent smurfing. That’s why they don’t show SR like Overwatch 1 , meaning that rank on our profile is nothing since the game will determine your skill rating by Hidden MMR instead of your rank.

Those are the reason why diamond match with mas-gm-top 500. but some player seem to find gold plat lobby even you’re in diamond.

To be honest, the skill in a rank would be more uniform if matches where made based on just visible rank. And people would stop getting meltdowns about a diamond being in their high gold lobby.
It would be clearer what’s happening in everyone’s games.

You would literally have to beat several people at a certain division to move upwards. A win streak could bounce you up more so you’d be rid of smurfs in low ranks faster.

Then again. This is basically how the invisible mmr works i think, at least if super simplified.

Too bad that the rank isn’t just a visible marker of our mmr, it has it’s own system on top of it.

Top 500 must be very low now that very few people play. Another problem with very few people playing is that it can’t find a lot of people at a similar MMR so it keeps expanding its range. Still it is going to mostly balance the MMR on both sides.

You almost understand the system but not quite. What you described is how a new account, or newly placed account, is handled. After you play enough games, which anyone in top 500 would absolutely have to have played enough games, your MMR and SR will be nearly identical.

Basically if MMR did not exist the only thing that would change is that new accounts would take longer to reach their actual skill level.
