Please Reduce Support Damage

I play support but I think the damage should be reduced by 10% and I wish we added more strategic abilities to there kit. I dont mind a few supports being damage oriented but I think half the support group is damage oriented into the kit.

Please hear me out, I really think it would make the game more strategic than a meta drill down. We all hate meta characters but blizzard encouraged this change due to the volume in dps. If anyone plays table top games, they kinda gets this idea

Supports became more aggressive because as they are the main target in a game they need a way to defend for themselves. From 6v6 to 5v5 there is 1 less player for each team to give extra protection to their team.

Knowing the fact most of the players are not even paying attention to their supports positions to help them, devs made a decision to make supports more independent since the first seasons of OW2. Plus players complaining supports were the least fun role to play because of it.

Like Zenyatta getting a super kick in his base kit, which can be even used for an aggro playstyle. Others adapted better to the new 5v5 balance like Mercy and Moira.

Not to mention, that healers output has burst, but they did reduce the overall effectiveness of healing alone. For most support characters, if all you are doing is healing, you are playing the hero incorrectly.

If you have a DPS that isn’t able to finish off their target, and you do instead, you probably saved your DPS from dying because they were missing their shots. You then can heal them afterwards.

I got told 3 times tonight (only on losing games of course) by the tank that our healers were trash. Funny how I’m not trash but praised on games we win. Go figure that one out. /s

Yeah. The tank that goes and stands in front of things, blocking my LoS to them, or running in way too far and not even the DPS follow. Yeah. No. They can just go and fall over, not going to follow you and die. And I even tried to keep near a tank that was going to do… Something. Instead it was just us two against the entire enemy team. Guess what happened.

Told the tank in chat, not following you again. lol

I was noticing a trend to this as well. To add, I think a lot of support mains are relearning with the burst healing even though its kind of been a thing for a while. I dont hate the changes with reduction of overall healing vs burst.

However, I think and hope they are leaning to change supports kits. I wish we had more diversity comparable to Kiri or Ana

  • Kiri has teleportation

  • speed

  • cleanse

  • Ana having grenade to heal and damage

  • sleep to help move position

As I’m typing this, I can see where damage can help with the greater effort. But, when I think of ana, I never think of damage alone.

Mm-hm. Well, I play DPS and tank and I think those us guys need to have their our health reduced by half. For sure, absolutely. Yeah.

As a Junes main, I want every day to be great by removing her auto-lock missiles. It would be more fun to lose an ability.

A 10% reduction isn’t really worth much; that’s just 2 damage off Mercy’s Blaster.

Few Supports do damage on Cassidy’s, or Ashe’s level, and none of them do damage on Genji’s.

Such as what?

It has been true, that in the past, the Support-role was very homogenized with the variety of “support” they offered (count how many supports improve damage…), but what are you hoping for that’s strategic?

Regardless of 5v5 or 6v6, Supports have always had ways to defend themselves they remain one of the roles with the fewest net deaths per game. There’s a reason why most of the Supports have 225 health.

This has always been true, but there’s an issue where a lot of Supports end up doing too much damage, and not enough healing, and the fact that applying their damage is often easier than the Damage-role is a noted fact as well.

Take off that 30% global reduction and you have yourself a deal.

Mid Rivals is evidently suffering from the unkillable, GOATSesque problem when they stack healers and keep their teams alive indefinitely. Some could argue, with good cause, that we need to tamp down on healing and let these hybrid supports kill instead.

Me personally? I love a good healbotting match, let the forums have their disparaging little sentiments. 4 years ago I was the Moira in the back that never deployed a damage orb, I had 30k heals and a Reinhardt drenched in blood from head to toe going 30-4. You can have your healbots directing attack dogs with massive sustainability, or you can have a gritty, grounded match with limited survival where everyone carries an ugly dirk on their hip, even the uwu Mercy and Junos.

You mean you want more supports like Ana? You realize you’re on the overwatch forums right?

Agreed along with tank aswell

No thanks. Your average tank and dps are trash and won’t bother to peel for their supports. Until everyone grows a brain (which is never happening btw), I’d like to be able to defend myself. Also, all that’s gonna happen is more tanks/dps being toxic when their supps die too easily, because they now do less damage and can’t protect themselves.

I recently had a comp game where I was in voice and comms to my dps that I needed someone to peel a flanking soldier off of me and my cosupport, just for them to tell me they heard the call out, but proceeded to do NOTHING about it, and my other support had to go kill him. Yeah, not happening if we had less damage.

Damage role heroes really don’t have the tools to peel for their supports,

Tanks do, but oftentimes, they will have to go I’ve up space to d it. You may not be aware of the tank strikes going on in Korea with them complaining that they often do too much or feel like they have to carry too much weight.

Again, the wasn’t really built in the way where everyone supported each other, there was a very important distinction in that supports were supposed to enable and service the damage role. Like wise tanks were there to setup Damage role ultimates and control the enemy team.

Despite the MMO trinity, the Damage-role are more like glass cannons rogues, black mages or samurai. No utility, all damage.

This was further streamlined in Overwatch 1 when Torbjorn and Symmetra lost the ability to give more health to allies. And every new Damage role hero furthers down this strict system of responsibility. Look at Emre, look at Anran, look at Sierra, none of them have any supportive tools or ways to peel or control the enemy diving into their team. But look at Mizuki and his chain, a perfect defensive tool and mark for allies to shut down a diver or flanker.

It is just not realistic to expect that the Damage-role to help you when they’re dependent on you to support and help them.

How about no.

I mean that’s all that needs to be said. The amount of DPS that support characters are capable of dishing out is fine.

It’s especially important if supports are forced to defend themselves from the other team. If I don’t have the DPS to kill an enemy hero that is harassing my character, then I may as well never leave spawn for all the good I’ll do in the game.

better yet, just delete support. Its a class that doesnt know what it wants to be and is abysmally bad unless you are a diamond or higher level player.

Support just get dunked on by every other class…again, with the exception of unless you are a highly skilled player.

Yes to Kiriko and yes to battle Mercy.

Kiriko has too many “Get out of Jail free” cards for her to be in any real danger. Mercy’s Ult absolutely does not need infinite ammo on top of unlimited flight, immediate rez reset, and multi-heal/empower. Its a bit much.

Other than that I would maybe decrease the time between shots on ana. It feels like its hurting her unscoped healing.

Following your team mates in is always a gamble. I once Mercy pocketed a Tracer (by request as I had only ever tethered them for the quick top up up until this point) and I was hesitant at first because the rest of our team was still on the front lines.

I decided to take that gamble and pocketed them into the enemy spawn where we spawn trapped everyone our team killed until it was a 4v2 and we had to back off.

But that was a rare occurrence, I’ve pocketed other DPS into the backline and gotten slammed for it.

DPS and Tanks need to show their confidence, no confidence means I’m not following you.

You cannot balance the game to just reduce support damage. That would change the whole dynamics of the game, meta, everything.
10% less damage might do absolutely nothing for a specific support meanwhile another might become unplayable.
It is not that easy.

I am more concerned how the most popular supports get nerfed. Look Ana and Kiriko. Both are nerfed imho for one reason - people like playing them and few of them are really proficient. So nerf. 80% other people still love playing them but are not nearly as good and hence 47% -48% win rate.

You don’t check the stats aka .. what FACTS are. They made a little page called Hero Statistics just for you.

“My role should get to be overpowered in a team based game because my teammates are bad.”

No, you should not get to be a demigod if your team won’t play as a team. You should just lose. 100% of the time. Zero exceptions.

Who has said anything about wanting support to be “demigods”? No one has asked for that, just you who can’t deal with supports being able to defend themselves when their team are too blind to help when flanked. You should always try and peel to some extent for your supports if you want healing, because no supports = no healing.

Another format issue. You can’t combine 5v5 and the passive healing regeneration (free healing) and healing reduction (making healing less impactful) and also cut damage.

Essentially the game has changed design to require that damage be the most important resource. If you take that away the entire role becomes worthless. You can’t effect enough with healing, you can’t effect enough with utility, not in 5v5 and not with the season 9 changes and certainly not together.
