Please please please fix fov

Can we please finally have a higher fov? like max 120?

People have been asking for this since 2016. And especially in a game that has a lot of rapid character movement this is essential.

It gives no advantage to anybody, as anybody can change it. High hertz monitors for example would give a way better advantage. Would you lock the game at 60fps because people with more fps would have an advantage? NO! FOV is just a tool for a better gaming experience.

I’m just sick of feeling claustrophobic because i can’t see crap around me.

As a reminder wording the topic of a title to be a petition or asking for likes or “signatures” is frown upon by the Overwatch posting guidelines. UPDATE: Thank you for editing your topic title.

I also will note (while I personally don’t necessarily agree with it), that the development team does not believe providing FOVs higher than 103 is fair for those who with 16.9 monitors who can’t support it.

That’s not how fov works, perhaps they misspoke?

but that opinion is simply wrong. I don’t know what else to say.

I play on 16:9. Just make specific fovs for specific resolutions.

Here is the exact quote from Jeff Kaplan:

Ok so there’s never gonna be a change. Guess i’ll have to look for a new game.

Any suggestions? No blizzard games though.

Never say never. That quote as you can see is very old and with technology evolving, I feel we do need an updated response especially with Overwatch 2 in development. But right now this is the status quo.

I appreciate you saying that.

To clarify Jeff’s statement, 21:9 results in either black bars, stretching, or a wider pov on a game that is natively 16:9; it is the latter that the devs find unfair. This is true of all fov caps, including the lower fov on console and a theoretically possible wider fov on pc. The decision to limit the 16:9 fov to 103 diagonal is a separate decision, and only relates to 21:9 in that a single number was chosen for all aspect ratios to avoid the issue above. It could easily be 110 instead.

well they had their chance…

You can go play some Quake 3 arena where you can set your FOV. Have fun.

2 months later btw… Why necro your own thread even?

because it’s my biggest issue with the game. why even ask that question? i waited 2 months for a change and nothing happened. so i said that…

The game has been out for nearly 4 years. Is there a specific reason that you had literally any hope that this was going to suddenly be a thing in this timeframe?

they said they’d launch an update that makes huge changes. but it was just some balancing stuff. I thought people get smarter. 103 fov is terrible. and i’m done waiting. i’m on paladins now.

I’m not sure how his quote or the fact that the game getting large updates in any way hinted that this was going to happen.

Have fun in paladins, though.

well i had hope. now i don’t. what’s your argument?

I was just curious why you thought this was going to happen when there was literally no evidence suggesting they were even considering it, and then you acted like they failed to deliver on something they never promised.

they failed to deliver on something that is common sense. i never said they promised anything. I’m just disappointed that with all the changes they make to keep the game alive they can’t just fix this issue which is a problem for many players. In this game where you have to have an overview of the battle. you only see a little box and to get information you have to yank that mouse around 24/7. which makes gameplay way worse than it could be.

I never said you did, I simply said you’re acting like it.

I’m also pretty sure most players don’t have much of an issue with the FoV. I’m by no means opposed to increasing it, but I generally only see a very small handful of extremely vocal people ever complain about it.
