Please make Competitive Mystery Heroes permanent

That’s it, that’s the thread. it is imho the most refreshing and fun mode and i want to keep playing it competitively.

It should be a permanent mode, not a 4 week thing i barely got to play.

Honestly, it was pretty fun!

If you can climb on mystery heroes, then it shows you have a lot more skill than you might think!

Averaging one’s skill across a random selection of heroes, over many games is a better measure of a player’s overall skill imho.

So you just think game sense and aiming ability and target prioritization and all the other skills that go into Overwatch don’t matter just because the hero picks are random? In Mystery Heroes, better players are better able to adapt and overcome even when the RNG team comps may not favor them, and those are the people who climb the ranks in that mode.
Saying it’s all luck and no skill is just as silly as saying there’s no skill in poker, or card games like Hearthstone/MTG, or board games like Monopoly because there’s dice, or something like Scrabble because you draw random letters. Games with RNG elements can still have skill components and be competitive.

I’m not trying to be the Grinch here… But the more modes we add, the smaller the pool of players in each queue becomes, which means even worse matchmaking.

Personally, I’d rather have them delete modes, and only keep:

  • 1 competitive mode - the same as is played in OWL.
  • 1 casual mode (Quick Play) that mimics competitive without rank
  • 1 extra casual modes that rotate every week.
  • Customs if you want anything outside that.

That’s what I would do… A lot of people would probably hate this idea. But it would help not spread an already declining playerbase in even smaller portions.

Yeah no, that would hard kill the game for me. You’d suck all the variety out, and with it, all the life.

Whereas competitive mystery heroes actually brought new life to the game, as it was the first time in 3 years I actually enjoyed playing something other than quick play.

They could add LFG back. That way you could LFG mystery heroes and set up a match in customs.

that’s still a massive step backwards, and then a tiny step… not even forwards, more like off to the side.

Regular mystery heroes sucks because of the constant leavers, ranked mystery heroes was amazing cuz it was all the fun of regular mystery heroes except people took it “seriously” (didn’t ragequit as often the second things didn’t go their way).

Putting it in custom games:

  1. takes away the fact that people are playing it seriously and treating it like a ranked game

  2. makes it literally not be a ranked game (no pride in ranking up, and no comp points earned towards golden weapons)

They should add LFG back, but it in no way addresses the current issue, and should not be treated as a compromise for removing 75% of the game.

This reminds me of anti-piracy talking points, where they assume everyone who pirates a game or movie or show is a lost sale, when the reality is most of the people who pirated it wouldn’t have ever bought it.
Similarly, many of the people who play MH basically ONLY play MH, and wouldn’t join other queues if it was gone. I would simply uninstall if they removed MH. (In fact I might anyway since casual MH now feels completely unsatisfying after having briefly comp MH.)
I know some people only played comp MH because they wanted the competitive points for ugly gold weapons, that may have affected other queues, so I would support a change that was like “you only get competitive points from one comp mode, whatever is your highest rank”.
What you propose sounds like the same mistake Blizzard made with WoW, where they focused entirely on the high-end raiding/mythic dungeons in order to keep the 1% high-profile, vocal, top hardcore raiders happy, and they neglected everything else and drove away casual/midcore players by the tens of thousands.

Aside from a few scattered seasons over the years, I almost never played comp. But I played almost 200 games of comp MH, for 6 years it’s been my most-requested feature, and it was every bit as beautiful as I’d imagined.

There was also a 6 month period a few years back where I got sick of quick play too, and I literally only played mystery heroes every day.

So you’re right, I would 100% uninstall if his proposed change happened. You’re not gonna catch me ranked role queue just cuz ranked mh is gone, and if you drop the arcade and turn quick play into a mirror of ranked but without points, then this game has nothing left for me.

when the enemy team has 2 orisa 2 support and 1 more tank and your team gets 3 supports 2 dps its impossible to win it really is all about luck sometimes i keep getting mercy and lucio :skull:

I hate seeing the word “impossible” in these threads. It’s only impossible because you or your teammates gave up. Sure it’s difficult af sometimes, but there’s always a way. And in that specific case, it probably involves ignoring the tanks and coordinating your whole team to focus fire on just one of the supports, and then the other. No matter how strong the team may seem, you only need to knock down one domino to turn the tide.

eh you are right but its still hard to cooperate with random people

Won’t argue with that. But that’s why I loved comp mystery heroes, people actually tried there. In regular mystery heroes you get leavers every 3 seconds.
