Please just do the math

i’m so sick and tired of this. every game i get a tank duo who thinks it’s some grand accomplishment to have damage medals. FIRST OF ALL, medals mean very little, and if at this point you still think so I’m very sorry to break it to you but your gold medals don’t mean you’re carrying. Second of all, I don’t know what’s so hard to grasp about tanks just being better than dps. They have a LOT more health and often ways to maintain that health, so their likely to stick around longer. I honestly couldn’t say it better than surefour: “Tanks do damage and have a lot of health, supports deal damage and heal, and dps just do damage” (paraphrased).

So please, for the love of whatever you believe in, stop getting mad at your dps for not having gold after they got dove in the back 3 fights in a row and received no help from the other five players of the team, and stop acting like a dps should always have all gold medals at once. If you’re playing tank and have gold medals, it isn’t because the dps are doing a bad job, it’s because you’re doing a good one. You have more health, you do as much if not more damage. Just do the math.

I can get mad at my DPS for not having gold.

The main point of tanks is to create oppertunities and tank damage.
Using that DPS can engage, but if DPS uses the exact seem tactics all the time whilst it clearly isn’t working then they’re doing something wrong.

We already knew medals don’t mean a thing, for your SR but it shows how well you are doing compared to your team.

DPS should have at the very least Gold and Silver damage, Eliminations should also be Gold or Silver at the very least.

It’s the DPS is not working together with the team, fault on them.

Tanks have more health so they can protect the team, though if they fully go in and do damage constantly then they’re not Tanking, rather being DPS.

As long as they ain’t say nothing, I could care less. That beta wants to whine in match chat, imma expose them.

I don’t play too much DPS anymore but I remember when I did, I had two options. I could focus on getting viable picks, choosing my targets carefully, or I could throw out oodles of trash damage to satiate those complaining that they have gold medals.

most tanks dont to that much dmg, you absolutely should be higher dps then them…even if your accuracy is average, like 30%.
Ball is firing blanks…they dont do dmg, if you have Ball top dmg, something is seriously wrong with dps
Hog and Zarya if played well can do dmg, but isnt hard to top them.

Ball is easy to get gold damage. Those boops do 50 damage and if you double boop a group of even 2… that is technically a full squishy eliminated when in reality all you did was make a pass through their team. It all adds up, you run them over and bounce on their corpses over and over again and you get hella damage. It is not his gun that does the work. Think about if he mines kind of on top of tanks behind their retreat path and boops them in. That is maybe 1,000 damage right there.

He does 125 dps within 15 m. Coupled that with his low spread, he does comparable damage to the weaker DPS heroes. Not to mention his other means of dealing damage. If anything, Hammond is one of the easier tanks to deal a lot of damage with.

Tanks also tend to have a lot more uptime than DPS due to their larger healthpools and being the focus of their supports and more uptime = more total damage done.

Fixed that for you.

It is easier to feed with him though.

Im more of suprised when i play winston and get gold dmg. Its more fault of other team than my at this point, for leaving me be and melt them XD

Of course it always depends on the situation and team comp. But if DPS can’t get gold damage, there could be problem with how they play. Let me make an example. Say on defense, one tank plays DVa. The other tank is Rein. In poking phase, we picked off one of the enemies. Naturally DVa would start charging in to take the advantage. Rein followed DVa and advance. What’s the DPS doing? Camping the payload. In their mind, defense is all about defensive, passive, “let them come and we should not move”. No, regardless of side, when we have advantage, we push the advantage. The result is easy to predict: both tanks die, then the team is wiped. In the process because tanks push, they have gold damage. Rinse and repeat.

In this scenario, if DPS follows, they should live long enough to wipe the enemy team, and gain more damage number than tanks. In the end, tank’s job is push and create space. They usually lack burst damage to finish off. If DPS don’t utilize the created space, the fight will lose.

Of course there could be many other possibilities. But your yelling tank may be correct. Watch the replay and think what can be done better.

Why do you assume the tanks were doing their jobs? If they dont create space for DPS and just feed the enemy damage requiring 24/7 babysitting from the supports then of course your DPS are gonna be crap.

Medals mean literally nothing even in the context of the current match. It’s one of the biggest reasons I’m against scoreboards during the match because people don’t understand what the number will mean, since the game is more complex than kill counters, damage dealt, and healing done.

Why does everyone keep misquoting this?

Is it so difficult to not be bothered by such unimportant things?

Your reply is confusing me

Medals don’t matter when you have them, but when I have them I carried

If we have a Zenyatta, a Baptiste, a Bastion, a Hanzo/Mccree, and a Zarya/Roadhog, and I’m Reinhardt Who has gold medals for damage/elims…

Can that be a problem now?

Ohhhhh. It makes a lot more sense after I actually saw your post above. I replied to OP and alt tabbed for a bit and then saw your reply, so i didn’t get the connection.

Was just wondering why you misquoted me lol

Not going to say tanks were doing their job, OP described tanks as DPS with more Health.

Not as tanking damage, protecting your team and making openings.

I’d say myself the tank role is the most crucial since it practically allows you to break through.

Of course if teamwork isn’t perfect then the entire team is trash.

And yes it’s still true that Medals don’t bring any worth.
If players know what average stats are then they know if they’re performing well enough.

Though it’s clear if a tank has done around 13k damage and a DPS only 6k then it would already be a clear indication of issues.

Eliminating the medal system is a good thing because it can prevent flaming.

People just shouldn’t blame stuff on others.

Having a higher health pool plus utility to shield/heal plus healer generally prioritizing you during fights means a helluva lot more uptime on the front lines up close where more dps have to do risky flanks or stay back further. Plus most of the tanks have far easier aim requirements as well.
