I think we’ve reached the point where the enjoyment of Quick Play in generally worse than playing Comp. To me at least. Its called Quick Play but you can’t relax because the playerbase is just so divided there.
Some players come to Quick Play to just relax a little bit, enjoy the game and play whatever and however they want to
There are players who are aim practicing and warming up for comp so they take it seriously
And then there are those players which take it even more seriously than comp and they act like they have to win the match or they die.
While in Comp only those players play which want a ranked experience.
The game would benefit from an Unranked mode because:
It keeps the competitive experience
Only those who want to warm up and play in a try hard style would play there
Would keep Quick Play more clean
Gold Point grinders would be there as well which would keep Competitive Mode clean as well
Given this the Unranked Mode should look like:
Having the Competitive ruleset
Has no impact on SR and has no suspension penalty after disconnecting
Winning would give 5 gold points while draw would give 2
Has Role Lock and Open Que option as well with Loot Box and Credit gain.
Is there backfill? Cause if there isn’t, I’m already seeing a ton of games ending with less than 12 players for various reasons. Especially if there’s no real penalty for quiting mid-match.
The Que times are impacted by the player ratio of roles than by the overall number of players. The idea is to split the tryhards from casuals because whatever the skill is, the thing why you’ve chosen the mode is different
Not really. Something in between Quick and Comp. It wouldn’t even be “quick”
Now thats a good question because thats one reason why i’ve thought about giving Gold Points based on results. Something i think should be implemented in QP as well is to remove backfill option after a given time like capturing a point and/or reaching a checkpoint.
AKA off-season, the mode where people would leave after the 1st fight if they lost it and where you had no backfill. People wont take this mode serious because there is nothing to lose or win
Its the opposite though. If i want to chill or cool off a little bit, QP, which is supposed to be for that, is not an option. Its a little bit funny how 10 comp matches in a row doesn’t make me angry but playing two Quick Play matches in a row makes me quit.
When you want to play the game for itself casually, QP should be the option, the core game. Not Arcade, which is an afterthought.
I stopped using LFG since it makes the difference between the skill of the players even more chaotic. And LFG groups tend to leave the group after one match or two unfortunately.
Except it doesn’t. On this account i am 3800. I play between 4k and 4.2k on others. I’ve been matched with platinum silver and even bronze sr players in QP. They need to fix that.
To be honest i wouldn’t call off seasons anything. They’ve even half-removed it because it haven’t had any risk or meaning. No Gold Points for example.
Quick play only has attack OR defend, not both. Koth gamemode is the only gamemode that is unranked, but you can’t choose it. Valorant and LoL has unranked mode, where you play a full game without it affecting your SR.
Csgo has a similar mode called casual, which is different from comp rules. OW’s QP is closer to that, than Riot games unranked modes
Thats what i really try to address but formatted better. Theres no option to play only casually in an official mode. If someone wants to enjoy the game they have to click the OW icon with a tryhard mindset to do so and it gets worse with every season.
RQ-QP’s matchmaking has gotten noticably worse over time.
It’s not always desirable to play Comp; maybe a person isn’t 100% (tired, ill, upset for whatever reason), maybe a person has some sort of real-life commitment which could crop up at any moment (sleeping baby, irritating flatmates, waiting for a phone call or a person to come around, etc.), maybe a person simply has an unreliable connection.
An additional mode risks splitting up the playerbase. There’s not enough tanks to go around.
So with all that in mind, I suggest:
Slap QPC right next to RQ-QP.
Really, seriously tighten up QPC’s matchmaker. It was loosened in the run-up to RQ, and queue times weren’t bad before; a minute or two, IIRC. They were about ten seconds afterwards, and the mode became a godawful circus that saw me exiled to the RQ PTR.
Make it continue to count towards Arcade lootboxes to nip a million forum threads in the bud.
It’s not the perfect solution. Having your Rein “flex” to Widowmaker was never enjoyable. But I think it might do a better job of soaking up excess DPS than current QPC for issue #1, helps create an alternative to Comp for #2, and touching up an already existing mode helps with issue #3.
As long as it has backfill enabled, I’m cool with it getting Comp rules for payload/2CP maps, too.
Something i want to add to this is that the PTR Role Que was a mess because it haven’t had any risk because it haven’t counted to the Live progression. This is the reason why im glad that they’re not using PTR anymore.
