Unless OW2 sees some serious changes from this Beta period to the launch date, I agree with you. I’m really not loving what I’m seeing right now, which is such a shame because I was optimistic.
I have a feeling OW would ‘un-die’ really really quickly if they put out some new animated shorts, released a handful of new heroes/maps/modes/sound effects/UI with a mega event
you guys do realize OW was pretty much a dying game before right? If they don’t release OW2 you can kiss the game good bye next couple years
It died because of a lack of content and effort.
The recent balances changes in recent years whilst OW2 has been worked on has been some of the best IMO.
Where almost any comp was viable.
I’m not afraid of new - I tried it. I stopped playing after a few games because I was bored…
I have never stopped playing OW because I was bored…
Its death match with a little bit of map objectives… its lost the intensity, fights don’t feel interesting. This is not a game I can see myself enjoying much.
I don’t care if they wanna take OW2 in this direction - but why do they have to paste it over OW1?
All OW1 needed to bring interest back was faster balance, updates and content… not an entire shift in the way the game plays…
I wanted to enjoy the beta but I’m sorry its just fast food OW. Sad.
I play quick play for a few hours nearly every night, and queues are not bad, plenty of people to play with, not dead. Now maybe competitive is dying, but that’s like 10% of the playerbase, so not a big deal, and not something they should cater the entire game around. Add in some new content and heroes and qp could go on for many years to come.
It won’t feel the same. It’s like playing Open Queue with heroes balanced around 2-2-2. It simply doesn’t work.
What people want is for the OW team to be committed to a 6 V 6 setup with regular patches, and not just toss it in Arcade for people to barely play it ever (except for farming lootboxes every now and then). But I guess it’s too much work.
Wait, I was under the impression that the workshop mode allowed for the tweaking of hero abilities and hero statistics. Couldn’t a player create a workshop mode in OW2 and properly balanced it around 6v6 if they so chose, or am I just completely wrong about how workshop mode works?
Some people may have tweaked that in the workshop but again, it’s niche. Who would play that ? People wanted a real Competitive mode with official balancing around Open Q 6 V 6. It never happened. the OWL and the OW team decided 2-2-2 was the new “standard” and the same will happen with 5 V 5.
If PVP 2.0 (what we currently have on the beta) isn’t released as a separate game, then everything we knew about original Overwatch 1 will be gone forever until the entire community gets all nostalgic and an Overwatch Classic game is released (just like they did with the old World of Wacraft expansions).
I’d be careful with the use of the word, “people.” You’re now making an assumption that the majority of players wanted open Q 6v6, and that they forced role queue on the community. Role queue was pretty well received and that’s the reason it stayed. Just look at hero bans if you want to see what happens to Blizzards ideas that aren’t well received. I won’t argue that 5v5 will become the new standard, because it will. Blizzard got people to play tank, before they even released the game. A couple of support buffs in the beta and they’ll be fine in my opinion. Blizzard has just got to make sure they do it before release.
I’m not understanding this portion here. Are you saying that people will undoubtedly become bored with OW2, and become so nostalgic for OW1 that Blizzard will be forced to release the original game as a standalone game? If so, how would you know that off of a few days of beta gameplay?
