yeah, the devs have stated that overbuff is accurate in terms of winrate and pickrate, it gets a little muddy in GM

"Winston is one of the top performing tanks at the moment"
So whatever you think you’re seeing in the stats apparently does not line up with what they’re seeing.
Overbuff is just broken, don’t read too much into it. The only buffs Winston really needs is for the other tanks to get some of their absurd buffs taken away.

No other character in the game even comes close to his winrate, a measly 36%, orisa is the next closest i could find and she is at 42%
Note, his pickrate is a whopping 0.05%, the next lowest picked character is echo at 0.44%
since there is much more dps to choose from than tanks, winston has abysmal pickrate and the worst winrate i have ever seen
even though i meme about overbuff, since the devs themselves have stated that overbuffs data is almost identical to theirs, this is a huge discrepancy
Winston is a hard tank to buff because he’s either bad or absolutely dominant on top of the pickrate incredible. How do you buff him in a way that doesn’t force dive to be meta? His survivability? Mobility? Damage? Shield?
Maybe give him a little more armor and see where he falls, but Winston really is feast or famine with little in between.
I just want him to get buffed so i dont have to play mauga or sigma anymore
Then ask for mooga and suckma nerfs.
Why ask for canteen buffs.

Unfortunately it’s just the nature of the beast.
Tank meta changes and shifts all the time and whatever tank they super buff is gonna be the meta tank until they decide it’s someone else’s turn. Winston is still performing super well according to the devs so I doubt it’ll be his turn until other tanks are tuned down again.
I get where you’re coming from but Overbuff breaking is a recent issue. Logically you know he has to have a higher pick rate than 0.05%, that’s one in ten thousand games.

it must be, bc when i looked at his Season 11 stats, he has a 8.82% winrate and a 0.01% pickrate
lets just hope it gets fixed bc this is laughably terrible (although it seems fine for every other character, idk why its just winston getting torched with this update)
I think some of it is that Winston has a lot less armor than other tanks so the tank buff is not as noticeable for him since one or two big hits will more or less shear it off. His tesla cannon does ignore armor against other tanks, but they have so much health that it’s difficult for him to stay in a single fight long enough for him to kill them.
Winston thrives in dive where his team coordinates around killing a single target to open the fight. When the DPS and supports that are good counter it, Winston struggles to find value. With the knockback reduction passive nerfed, Winston is also more susceptible to being pushed out of position which is pretty much a guaranteed death.
Hog, Mauga, and Queen, which can pretty much ignore/fast break the bubble also kind of body Winston. Queen’s knife still has its buff from the 50% tank move reduction and Roadhog exist so they’re going to be great at moving him around. Until other tanks that make him hard to play are tuned back down, Winston will probably struggle to find a lot of value if the tank stays on him.
To back up what others have said: Overbuff went completely off the rails with the mid S10 patch and hasn’t really recovered. Here’s Winston with a 100% win rate in GM today, the 14th of July 2024.
