Please bring me up to date on 6v6

So I haven’t played for 2 years since they came up with that 5v5 garbage.
Now 6v6 is apparently back, but knowing Blizzard they probably found a way to f it up instead of simply giving us 2/2/2 Role Q back and undoing most of the changes they did for 5v5.
Before I waste my time and bandwidth downloading it, can someone please summarize for me what’s going on and how they implemented 6v6 in OW2?

My opinion only!

It’s 5v5 but with 2 more players not much to say about it!

2-2-2 was the very worst version of 6v6 this open queue version is at least better than that!

They did pretty much just give us 222. But that is no longer available as of 3 days ago. Now it’s 6v6 with max 3 per role and minimum 1 per role

Either way it’s not ow1 6v6 which sounds like what you wanted though given they’ve reworked heroes and changes health pools and hitboxes in that time most of which isn’t reverted

You got to be kidding me…
Looks like I have to come back to check in 2 years again - if the servers are still running at that point :joy:

Probably less. They extended the mode an extra like 2-3 weeks beyond what they intended because it was really popular. I would be a bit surprised if it didn’t come back in the next couple months

6v6 still has all the same issues it always did so not sure why you’re waiting for it to come back lol

I have a lot of issues with 6v6 but I will say I kinda hope it replaces open queue. I kinda like having the mode as a low effort mode I can just kinda mentally afk and autopilot.

Last season I had 16 hours in open queue Juno only just because it was kinda fun running it down with 3 tanks 2 supports and not having to think a lot about what was going on

If you only liked ow1 and don’t like OW2 6v6 isn’t really going to do anything for you anyway. As a purely OW2 player myself the 6v6 is kinda alright here and there but not nearly as good as 5v5 imo.
Honestly they need to just stop the silly garbage and let people who bought overwatch 1 play the game they bought.
It doesn’t do anyone any favors trying to squish them all into one thing. They turned off ow1 which rightfully made a ton of people furious. They came out with OW2 and that community grew over 2+ years as well. And now they want to try and make the people they pissed off by turning their game off happy by pissing off all the new players? Doesn’t make sense just let people play the game they bought and wanted. It’s ridiculous.
Instead they are gonna try and force this ow1 sized chunk of ideas into a game that doesn’t really have room or need for it. Game has been balanced and updated for over 2 years for ow2 5v5 why would adding an extra player do anything for anyone? It just doesn’t make sense.
But I guess anything other than just letting people play the game they bought!
Honestly there should just be an overwatch classic that’s overwatch 1 and that’s it. And then overwatch 2 with the new stuff added. Maybe as a stretch goal they can start adding in new heroes to classic but they have to build them for it.

Instead of blizzard being the ultimate bad guy for it all we get content creators and players at each other’s throats for liking different things and then flaming each other back and forth for “ruining” their game. I don’t want overwatch 1 or 6v6ers changing the game I love just like they don’t want us changing the game they love. I’m on the side of the gamers, all of them, both sides for this one. Just because I want my ow2 5v5 doesn’t mean anyone who loved and played overwatch 1 shouldn’t be allowed to play their game that they literally paid for. Honestly it should be criminal.

Well it sounds worse when totally out of context.

As part of the efforts to bring back 6v6, they said they would be doing multiple tests for different formats. One was classic 2-2-2, one intended to be the current min/max variant.

They have not landed on one (though just based on feedback on the forums it sounds like 2-2-2 is the more popular one), so my expectation would be that this will return at some point.

That said, so much has changed from OW1 that if you haven’t played the game in 2 years, I’m not even sure 2-2-2 is going to satisfy you. IMO 5v5 (among other changes) has pretty much permanently ruined the game due to countless changes made to shoehorn it in, but that’s just my own personal opinion, and you should probably give it a shot once they finalize on a plan to form your own.

The 2-2-2 mode was great, even with most of the reworked hero kits and new heroes. I played nothing else, it was fantastic. This Min1Max3 thing just doesn’t hit the same.

It’s so much better than 5v5, and I’ve been having a blast — even with S9 and role passives being in the game!

I highly recommend you give it a try!

Min1-Max3 isn’t as good as 2-2-2, but still plays better than 5v5.

Don’t listen to the doomers who say it’s 5v5 with 2 extra players. These tanks are actually killable.

The current test of 6v6 is called 1-Min/3-Max. Its basically OQ with role limits. You just missed 6v6 RQ 2-2-2, but hey, at least 1-Min is here right meow! :smirk_cat::+1:

Thank you for the replies!
I decided to give the new mode a try and it is definitely more enjoyable than 5v5, but the missing Role Q hurts it a lot.
It is really unfortunate that I missed the 2/2/2 Role Q test and I hope that they will bring it back as permanent Quickplay and Competitive modes as soon as possible.

Yeah… so they didn’t do that. The bandaids that are required for 5v5 still exist in 6v6.

Played two games of the new mode and it feels more fun than 5v5 for now even if I strongly dislike the min1 requirement, but I’ll give it a few days. Can just be honeymoon period.

probably because it is deemed to be better than 5v5 even with said issues…which is my stance as well

Timing is critical in OW!

There is a chance that 6v6 2-2-2 RQ will be reintroduced into OW2 as a reoccurring/permanent mode in the future, depending on the results of these 6v6 tests (i.e. 2-2-2 seems to be more popular than 1-Min), but its all speculation at this point.

Because even the halfassed balance patch they came out with for this 6v6 mode was still more fun than 5v5 has been for the last two years. And now, even this Min1Max3 thing is still more fun than 5v5, even though I like the 2-2-2 role lock more. 6v6 may have issues, but on the whole those issues are less of a fun-killer than 5v5’s issues.

hey hey!!! someone actually provided a real answer rather than just regurgitating that they prefer X over Y, which is not actually all that important…thats not why they did the tests…emphasis on tests because people seem to forget that that is why 6v6 was available for a few weeks

The good thing? It doesn’t have the problem 5v5 ever has
