Crossplay update on console added in text chat, a feature I do not want. Honestly the lack of text chat was one of the great features of console Overwatch compared to PC.
There’s no now way to permanently disable text chat and get the experience back the way it was before, and typing “/hidechat” every game is even more of a pain on console than it is on PC.
Please add an option in settings to just turn off text chat display permanently.
Man I agree! I actually enjoyed not seeing a toxic chat every match… I had 1 match with chat enabled and it was already so bad… can’t believe how quick some console players type.
I tried to /hidechat but you can’t see voicelines then either (like ult status n stuff, which is handy) and I joined a group with voicechat and that also seemed disabled because of it??? not sure, but it was odd…
Oh man i didnt realize /hidechat also hid all emotes, thats terrible. I just want a setting back to the way it was before (no user entered text)

You need an avenue of communication open with your team, specially in comp.
on Console watch, that’s usually…voice chat. Isn’t that preferable anyway? Typing on a console keyboard takes much longer than youd think.
Console has done just fine without this for years now so, clearly its fine. And players on all platforms could always hide/mute/leave channels anyway. There are permanent “don’t ever put me in voice chat” options in settings, I just want the same for text chat so that I can go back to the way it was before.
Yep. Been fine for years. If teammates need to tell me something they can do it just fine with the commands provided.
Omg yes I agree too. I HATE having the toxic chat feature that plagues PC games, I used to love that I didn’t see abuse on console

I have yet to see any positive text chat directed towards anyone, myself or others, by either team, since they added it to Xbox OW. It’s clunky, awkward, and time consuming to use with a controller as well. Regardless, how many Xbox players even wasted the money to get the Chat Keyboard peripheral to begin with?
This text chat “feature” does nothing for Xbox OW but further the spread of toxic verbal abuse with the only way to hide it, being a temporary thing that you must re-enter every time you load the game that also hides the in-game generated text we’ve always had (Comm wheel messages) withOUT a way to hide them.

There’s a shortcut on PC (I believe it’s Ctrl+Shift+C) I tend to keep the chat hidden because of the toxicity.
Idk if there’s a way to do that on console though.
I’ve had a few fun interactions in QP like getting praised for some kill i made or something or some memes.
I’ve only played 1 game on ranked on xbox since the update because 1st game on Our Rein told me and the other support we were braindead because we didn’t heal him enough while he was charging into them on his own.
I can take criticism but i personally think i did nothing wrong but because of this i just dont feel like playing ranked right now.
so pls lets us hide without hiding commands

I agree. Since text chat has come to console I’ve found it nothing but toxic. At least give us the ability to turn it off.
I just wish I could sign out of general chat permanently if I chose, rather than have to hide it after every match.
I don’t want to see all the idiots talking about idiot things while I’m reviewing a replay or browsing my hero roster.

On XBOX SERIES X when you do a /hidechat, there is no way outside a live game to unhide the chat even though the legend at the bottom of the screen says to click the left thumb stick. Clicking the thumb stick will do nothing. I was in a group and wanted to unhide the chat between rounds and it is impossible?
I agree 100%. Get on it Blizzard, you lazy asses. Or, at least add a feature to disable player text chat.
Please turn off text chat Blizzard. Trolls telling my 7yr daughter to Uninstall game is beyond ridiculous!!
I was hoping they would never add it on console…but oh well, here we are.
