goats meta lasted a year and a half through the entire communities complaint, i have loved this game for almost three years now (march 2017) and have had very few complaints since and have adapted to every meta. Double/triple shield is not only incredibly boring, frustrating, and downright cancerous for lack of a better word. The worst part is that as someone with a pc that can generally sustain 220FPS+ but with this stupid sigma orisa sym meta, all of the shield textures rendering at the same time drops me to 90-120, which makes tracking feel extremely gross and choppy, not like you need tracking to shoot shields

The community has complained about every single meta since the game’s inception. Whatever balance patches happen and whatever new meta is formed from it, there is only one thing that is sure to happen. The community will complain about that meta too.

Totally agree that people will complain no matter what. But does that take away from the fact that barrier meta is extra bad?

How do you determine what is extra bad and what isn’t? Is it through pick rates? Grav Dragon meta was far more stringent. Is it through feels? That is at best subjective.

Accessibility scaling w.r.t. success. Barriers to entry. Risk/reward ratios. The list could go on and on. If you’re seeing a rise of FOTM symmetra and doomfist mains with <10 hours playtime dominating games where people are playing their 200+ hours mains, thats a balance/meta problem.

No. After Ana was nerfed with the tank meta, the game was in the golden age of balance. It was just when Sombra was coming out.

The issue with this meta is that it’s the same genre as GOATs. It’s all about sustain on the objective. There’s a reason everyone has called it ‘Mini-GOATs’. I personally like the name ‘Welfare GOATS’. But, meh w/e. It’s the same concept. The fast paced action shooter of old is nowhere to be seen, bud.

not really, during dive meta everyone was pretty happy

Oh really? Is that why they made a character with the sole purpose of countering dive? Because nobody complained about it?

Stop playing when you don’t like the meta. It’s why this game is doomed, it can’t make everyone happy. I was legit so addicted to this game that I failed everything sophomore year, and bam orisa hog, couldn’t play Lucio, I dipped and found something else. Just stop playing when meta is trash, no meta will be able to benefit everyone, go to quick play for that

I agree, determining what’s a good meta is largely subjective. I think part of it is that a lot of people picked this game up thinking it was going to be, as someone else in the thread put it, an “action shooter.”

Dive obviously had its own problems and I agree that every meta has a number of people saying it’s terrible. It just seems to me, and apparently a fair number of other people, that the last couple of metas have been all about cc and slowing the game down.

To me, spamming shields doesn’t seem as fun, even as GOATs. But you’re right, there’s probably people out there that think this meta is the best the game has ever had.

Hmm, that is weird.
Why DID they make Brig I wonder?

Wait.

I know this.

To transition to the Stun meta, the best and most loved meta of them all:)

Imo best way is through pick rates at top level.

Been watching owl play offs. Some cracking games.

But I can’t recall a single match where both tanks weren’t Sigma and Orisa (bar Hammond for objective grabbing, etc) on both teams.

Supports quite varied as far as I recall. No Zen that I recall. Saw Brigitte once I think. But others getting a fair run out, although Lucio and Moira seem to be the default.

Dps limited to Reaper, Doomfist, Mei, Bastion.
Also some Pharmercy in evidence.

Symmetra only used to teleport players forward from spawn, then switch to Reaper.

It’s a tricky situation to deal with for sure.

More variety than Goats at least.
