i dont know why, but playing tank always makes me angry…
the fact that i cant play tank more then 2-3 games to preserve my sanity does speak for itself i believe…
i cant quite put my finger on what it is but i believe all tanks need some love…

I’ve been playing Winston for quite a while recently without any issues.
Really enjoying him honestly.
I’ve been triple-queueing with friends in QP for a while (they don’t want to do comp), and more often than not, I’m a tank. What makes me angry is the quality of the DPS we get on our team. I don’t see how someone can sit in queue for 12 minutes just to miss every shot.
It’s because tanking is super fun when your team is functional and everyone plays properly, but all it takes is a throwing tank buddy or your main healer to ignore you or a constantly feeding DPS and it becomes quite a miserable experience. You also need patience to play tanks. The best way to spot a bad non-tank player on Rein is to check how many times they feed and die without their shield even having cracks in it because their ADHD behavior gets better of them all the time so they just swing or charge instead of playing properly
Its by no means fun. You are a punch bag to CC and burst damage. Especially if you solo tank its a horrible experience.
Everyone wants a shield tank but not willing to play one hence why off tanks are super popular. My fav tank is zarya and thats because she can self bubble with a potential of very high dmg.
I dont know how to winston for more than one game, and best to be in duo with healer, i just walk at people, either it work or dont, its not a hero i could play to much myself.
I hate tanking because there’s far less options for it than other roles. There are exactly two types of tanks. “In your face tanks” and the “stay behind the shield” tanks. That’s it.
No tank does better from the backline. No tank has a less direct way of preventing damage than just soaking damage in front of your team. There are less unique skills in tanking than other roles. Way back when Sym’s first rework was announced, I was hoping she’d be reworked into a tank that prevented damage by giving allies decaying shields. I wanted it so I could actually play a tank that did something besides stand in front and take damage.
There’s a series of things that can make tanks potentially unfun and stressful.
-Supports not healing enough or not being able to stay alive against flankers and stuff to keep you healed enough.
-You start peeling for your supports, then you leave the “front-line” exposed, or the enemy constantly find opening angles to pressure your team.
-Then you start wondering “what is my DPS doing” they might as well be struggling to kill the flankers, or try to go ahead while supports are busy dealing with flankers.
-You feel like swapping to try to counter-play something to only then remember that you don’t have much options and you lose ult charge.
For example: using D.Va or Orisa to counter Pharah, Mercy and Echo is not the same thing as using a fast and lethal hitscan DPS (with consistent aim). Using Hog or Sigma to counter a Ball or Doomfist is not the same as using Sombra or others… you know?
If you’re playing Tank but want to have fun and also be a barrier tank, trust me when I say try Sigma. The dude’s so fun.
I can’t stand tanking in QP vs. any combination of mei/reaper/sombra. Especially when you aren’t getting any heals, you are essentially forced to play a tank that is mobile enough to get out of the cc or avoid the reaper.
OR MAYBE YOU NEED SLEEP LMAO XDXD
Playing tank can be stressful. There’s no shame in taking a break from the role from time to time.
As a tank main I hope and pray we get a hit scan tank in ow2.
Just played a game where a Roadhog’s strategy was to simply walk through my rein shield and shoot me because my team was F(&^ useless. If I dropped the shield to hammer him, his team would focus me down again because my team was F&( useless. So, yeah I get your frustration.
1 year later and tanking has just gotten worse
I’ve looked at every tips and tricks video for every hero. I’ve gotten all gold on all roles from bronze-silver-plat (last season brig).
For me…
Silver-Gold: Can climb on Tank with Any Tank if good enough. (As frustrating as it can be to tank, it’s possible to climb, you have to know when to switch off Reinhardt, only switch to Rein if enemy has Junkrat, etc. or else your team will just get destroyed. Switch to DVA off tank if your team rein is still dealing with Junkrat problems, especially on hollywood… shorter chokes)
I love using Sigma, Winston this season.
Silver-Gold: Can climb on DPS with a 3-4 heroes, if you have good cooldowns and stay alive. Try for a short range, medium range, long range and off pick. Mines would be like, Reaper, McCree, Soldier and Torbjorn. This season. But Echo is a good off pick.
Silver-Gold: IMO, Really hard to climb supports nowadays. You really need to make plays. They’ve nerfed supports the most!
Play mostly: Mercy, Moira, Brigitte, Baptiste— all equally.
Silver-Gold: With friend, easy climb for all roles if both are playing impactful heroes for the role or comboing or duo role. Guarantees alot of safety.
Waiting for OW2 for the rest of my games, the game quality will be better moderated, less smurfs, etc. Gold has most smurfs & new players which means they have a “Level 25 Overwatch Icon” player and you have an actual new Sombra main Level 55 and it’s just so one sided. Nothing can carry that, no matter how good you are. Usually it’s multiple new players you get vs their booster account + smurf.
When I play tank I get annoyed at supports and when I play support I get annoyed at tanks. But at least when I play support I know why things fell apart, as tank you can only guess bc most of it isn’t happening on your screen.
Surprisingly when there is a DPS diff I don’t find that very annoying at all, unless the failing DPS try to push the blame onto tank or support. Which is not uncommon.
