Playing support in Overwatch 2 is kinda bad

If you’re a support player, you should be hating this new game that is going to be forced out on everyone. I’m a Lucio player, arguably the support that benefits the most from the new changes and Lucio is still LESS fun and useful than he is on the live game unless you play like a DPS.

Reasons why supports are just weaker now are because you get your ult wayyyy slower, there’s one less tank to soak up damage and give you ult charge. Not only that but now the game is alot faster and basically all DPS do more DPS and all tanks are just fat DPS. No supports got any significant buffs despite the game being less favourable to play support. What this means is you’re playing characters designed on the Overwatch 1 power level which is wayyyy lower than all these power crept DPS and Tanks. So now you die faster to overtuned characters like Sombra and Bastion, have less peal, have less people to heal and your character doesn’t even play any different from the first game so its not even that much more fun.

My only suggestions is to have some sort of rework to increase supports way of fighting back against flankers, as the average DPS power is increased and the lack of a tank to help peal and heal its only right that supports get some sort of compensation in power to make the game fun. The game literally feels like I’m playing Overwatch 1 just that everyone else is more powerful except me. Also counters to supports are all way more powerful now.

Yeah… I’m still going to only play Mercy tho :joy:

Yea but to be honest, Mercy is at least viable. If you play Zen,Bap or Ana you’re basically throwing. But even then, I would argue that ‘meta’ supports are still weak comparably to the rest of the game.

its not “kinda” its just really bad. Its mostly not fun, there is no peel, and you just get focused by everything now

I wouldn’t really say that, the game is still definitely playable but its really frustrating to play against those overtuned characters that are clearly not balanced properly. If you think the current Bastion, Sombra and Sojourn has the same ‘power’ level as an Overwatch 1 DPS that wasn’t changed like Symmetra, Torb, Ashe then you’re smoking something.

Overall though, would say the main complaint is that supports are just less impactful than they were in Overwatch 1, not that they were even that impactful in the first game lol.

Really? Even ANA!

I can already imagine Anas getting deleted in seconds lol, idk I haven’t played yet.

Music to my ears :pray:t2:

I"m a bap main and I don’t get the damage falloff nerf. Being focused now more than ever and my ability to defend myself just got nerfed…

If anything, i feel like the passives for support and dps should switch. Support should be a mobility increase and DPS should get a passive health regen. That way when DPS are getting ignored they aren’t all butt hurt about it; their health is regenning on it’s own; also support doesn’t have to go out of their way to heal 50 health on someone not currently being attacked. And Support are better at getting out of trouble as they’re the ones being focused right now. Support should be in the thick of the fight balancing healing teammates, dealing damage to enemies, and protecting themselves. Not being harassed by teammates outside of a fight that need health recovered.

Why do you say all DPS do more damage?

Not all DPS do more damage but the average DPS power has increased significantly. Obviously there’s still bad DPS characters because they weren’t buffed while many were overtuned but the point is that overall the game is more hostile than Overwatch 1 and supports don’t have fun dying to Sombra who gets a 40% damage buff after hacking you while they were invis.

My suggestion is to bring back the damn stuns. Brig stun and Flashbang particularly. Flash + fan is degenerate so remove the fan, and the aimbot grenade is dumber than flash anyway. Give Mei her freeze back too because she is laughably awful right now. the fact that tracer/sombra/doom just have free rein to do whatever the hell they want and to bully the supports is just so frustrating

Also, the tank passive gives 30% less ult charge to allied healers. So it’s less efficient to build ult on tanks than on squishies.

Yeah that part of the passive is mind boggling. It must go.

Pretty common verdict is Mercy is the worst support so you might be in a bit of trouble.

The DPS that received buffs all had nerfs in other areas. And some DPS just straight up had their damage reduced to compensate for the new format making them better. I don’t agree with the sentiment that DPS as a role is stronger.

Nah I think most can agree Zen is worse.

Nah most of the pros had Mercy down the bottom of the tier list while Zen was more middling. For sure he can and does get blown up a lot, but at the same time Discord Orb is a disgusting ability particularly into Rein and Orisa. He is capable of heaps of damage and Trance is still a good ult when you occasionally get it. There is so much more damage going on in the game now though that Harmony Orb makes literally zero difference anymore, they get completely blown up all the same even with a decent 30 hps on them

I just realize that I may have access to the beta, I guess I’ll test out Mercy’s performance :fire:

You also get less ult charge from shooting enemy tanks. So basically you get pretty slow gains when constantly harrassed by mobile tanks.

You literally hit the nail on the head.

I am a support main and this just feels like a deathmatch where DPS and tanks just go at it and healers are just there to sometimes do stuff.

Not to mention Ana’s grenade has more “air time” than usual. Healing in general just feels sooooo awful. Actually not looking forward to the game coming out now lol
