Playing comp without coms

I understand people not wanting to use coms for VARIOUS reasons.

But understand the matchmaker cannot do everything for you, oh you lost a game you were “Favored” to win meanwhile you got wanna be Samito over here comming like he auditioning for the OWL seriously what do you expect to happen?

Especially if you’re on tank, well now its dps this ain’t just a high ranked thing I think it was flats? He said him and KarQ lost every single game his dps were in voice chat.

And unlike a lot of people us shot callers we don’t really… I don’t wanna sound rude but we don’t care what the matchmaker thinks although some games are greatly unbalanced.

I out my team being in vc before I put the matchmaker doing ANYTHING for me, So I do consider matchmaking a factor.

Not everyone likes coms, not everyone uses coms, some people work better without coms (but if that was the case you wouldn’t say anything about the matchmaker).

You qued up comp and stayed outta vc… what did you expect to happen? You think just because the matchmaker says Im a diamond player I should act like a diamond and have all these predictable diamond like behaviors? Because otherwise why would I be a diamond right?

You run into 1 very slight ityy bitty tiny issue, In my head Im a masters or a gm your gonna call me a “Smurf” Im avoiding mistakes I made last game, I’ve done tweaked my sens to the perfect setting, and hell my tanks in coms and yours isn’t what do you thinks gonna happen?

I really want some thoughts on this because when people talk about the matchmaker they never talk about coms, its always matchmaker do this or that or hold my hand and decide every game for me make every single last one of them “Evenly matched”, coms is how you bend, break, and shape this game to your will a lot know you won’t win every game sure, if your tank/now dps are outta vc its probabbblly gg. But still you’ll be able to carry and win at least a decent amount more games then you lose and even those “Uphill battles”.

I stopped using voice chat a few seasons back. It’s not put me at a disadvantage as far as I’m aware.

Yes yes I mentioned people who do better withought it.

I’ll play ranked for like 10 hours over the course of the week. All I end up saying is “yo” at the start of matches 4 times. I still won’t play without voice. It’s free wins.

Ranked game, Antarctic Peninsula. Enemy Zarya. 4 or 5 in chat. Game tied. Nothing said until 20% left to win last round. I say “punish Zarya bubbles”. We do it and win. Nothing further said lol.

Though that could’ve been said in text so whatever.

Still can blame the matchmaker because what system decides a Gold 3 Tank vs a Diamond 3 Tanks is fair. Although that’s a player population problem

Yeah tanks definitely have waaayy to much weight for rank difference to risk being that big, I’ve won these kinds of games plenty of times this is another one of those things where it HEAVILY comes down to the tank being in vc I remember I had a game like this tank wasn’t in vc in a masters lobby and he was like what low plat gold? Me and the entire team were in vc and we could of EASILY EASILY guided him through how to play in these lobbies.

Id prefer them just keep tanks as tight as possible if they don’t wanna force that role into vc.

Unfortunate for that player wondering why he got match here. Don’t even think VC would help the person at all

Oh no it literally would have all he had to do is hit 1 shatter he had like 4-5 chances to hit a shatter or just stay back, people out of coms do sooooo many inconvenient bad plays like you have no idea.

The amount of times ive said “We could of just ya know not done that” is ridiculous cause sometimes it comes down to you hell not doing anything.

It wasnt even the fact he didn’t hit 1 shatter he hit a few but he kept doing well normal behavior people outta vc do, if your a shot caller if ya know ya know.

Imagine your about to win the last team fight right? And someone keeps doing the EXACT thing that would lose you that game, like that is the only possible play that could lose yall that point and that person makes it.

That’s why the ping system was added for those that don’t want to be in VC. If the team ignores vital pings on flanking Moira/Phara, and we’re getting stomped, oh well…that’s on them.

One thing I see playing Tank without VC is rough than other roles. Notice ton of non VCs just go one by one in instead grouping up.

Maybe playing without coms should be as punishing as it is, but like where do you even begin to balance around that? Like its a team game.

But Im a shot caller obviously Im very bias and I admit that but if your outta vc in comp… I just don’t wanna deal with you.

I know everyone says “oh if you were a true gm” hell even gms B about people not being in coms.

People say there for roasting your teammates or calling swaps or doing this and that…

Its honestly just to prevent dumb s*** like sombrafeet you can make those amazing calls every now and then that just win you the game.

But if you ask me if I want to run it down mid into the enemy spawn after we’ve been VISABLY STRUGGLING TO FULL HOLD THEM and somehow did it and are in overtime and you feed and die, Im gonna Cu*** you out… but when people are in vc there more pressured not to to do stupid stuff like this… because honestly why?

Some people will say “Oh its to stop them from touching” my good sir you are out of vc you are about to take a 1 v 5 Im not sure your aware of this, the rest of us have already determined that we are perfectly fine where we are at and don’t need to do anything extra, we can just keep the positions and formation we’ve had literally all game.

This just like 1 example there’s multiple better ones then this one, but like a lot of the time it literally just comes down to that 1 either genius orrr dumb as hell play.

With the number of bots going around…
I use a brief pre-game voice/mic as a bot-check.
It’s not foolproof, but tends to let me know who or what is at least Turing-Complete.

No mic? You should be forfeiting your right to report any1 for sab.

Yeuh no. There’s a reason that new amateur teams spend hours and hours teaching and re-enforcing good comms before they even start on things like aim and positioning–because when players don’t know how to comm, they completely turn a group of very decent players into absolute monkeys.

The thing is, almost nobody in solo queue has any idea how to comm well. The very well-meaning ones might just be distracting their teammates with useless or incomplete information, but a lot of the time they’re actively tilting their teammates with “constructive” advice delivered badly, or by trying to shotcall without having (or really deserving, in a lot of cases) their teammates’ trust. At this point I’ve seen way more games ruined by bad comms than I’ve seen games saved by good comms so, that being said, if you’re solo queue and trying to improve your own skills while having fun, you are very likely to be better off without chat.
Especially if you know you’re someone who struggles to stay focused, or if you tilt easily, which, let’s be honest, is most Overwatch players.

Personally… I have a lot of background playing on organized teams way back before Overwatch, and have shotcalled, captained, and even coached plenty and I really enjoy being able to queue with my old buddies with all those crisp, clean comms and punctated by well-timed uplifting jokes and compliments. Team games are so much more fun that way and of course you win more.

But even I seldom manage to replicate anything close to that on solo queue and it’s honestly just exhausting to even try. Solo queue comms are atrocious by default but I’m also a woman so I run the risk of teammates completely losing their minds once they hear my voice. It’s just not worth it.
