It seems like on a daily basis you see someone post “X hero needs a rework”.
I mean Symm, Mei, Brig, Bastion and to some extent Sombra do have some fundamental design issues that prevent them from getting buffs.
Also, devs are gonna have to do something big with Tanks if they ever wanna fix queue times.
Bastion is the only hero who honestly needs one.
Symmetra has been reworked twice and is still underperforming and that’s because they never balance her. When she got her first rework she literally received no balance changes, they just decided to rework her again without even bothering to try and make her kit work. Lately that’s been the case with her now, she was nerfed to oblivion last year and received 2 buffs, 1 of which got reverted. In over a years time all she has is a slightly shorter cooldown on TP… They should focus on why she’s struggling instead of giving up on her and reworking her every year. All she needs is consistency buffs so her kit isn’t so slow.
Sombra really doesn’t need one either, they just need to shift the power in her kit away from utility to DPS, heroes who rely heavily on their utility are never well balanced, this applies to Mei & Sym too.
Honestly we talked about this 57 days ago with The Devs and had 3-4 Ptr/ExC since.
But Devs yet to actually tackle it.
Really if this continue and if nothing is mentioned before December.
Then that’s raising some really crimson flags that used to be up in June.
I agree, people ask for reworks like if the dev team was capable of doing them, and if it was a simple thing to do.
They can barely do balance and that’s has been their job all these years (and not great at that either).
Specially the ones asking to move heroes to other categories. Did nobody saw what happened to Sym?
Also moving a character to another class is more likely to ruin the essence of the Hero. I don’t want a tank Brig personally.
Besides the obvious reason that I like playing her as support, if you move her to tank, you need to change her abilities so much that you are not playing Brig anymore, just another hero with a Brig skin.
And in this case in particular, she would be just a budget Rein.
Was there actual experimental cards for heroes like Mei, Sombra, Brig, Bastion and or Sym? The only one I could consider as actual experiments were the tanks one and the 2 for Moira.
Right now the experimental cards seem just like an easier-to-access-PTR. No actual impactful “experiments” happening there for the last few weeks.
Which seemed to be a dastardly different direction then what was talked about on the AmA.
Honestly I could talked about all the ways I could improve something.
But if no action was actually taken in months.
Then I wouldn’t be actually doing my job then and deserve actions taken against me.
The only hero in the game who needs a rework is Bastion
Symmetra can be balanced but Blizzard isn’t trying anything to fix her.
Mei is fine as DPS, all she needs is an ammo and Blizzard buff but I wouldn’t mind her being a tank.
Sombra is just team reliant in a team based game.
Brig is just meh. I don’t really have an opinion on her right now so I won’t comment on her
Tbh, it seems like devs are in a “balance against the status quo” approach, rather than balancing in a specific direction.
So you’d probably see something more like:
Sym = +50 shieldhealth
Bastion = 0.5sec transform speed in Ult
Mei = Primary classed as Projectile, Icicle refire rate increased
Mercy = +5 healing
Brig = ShieldBash stun reduced to 0.1sec, shieldbash damage increased to 45, selfheal increased by 5hps
Widow = Max base damage reduced to 100
Ashe = scoped falloff range starts 10m sooner, shotgun knockback on enemies reduced by half
Those changes seem reasonable. Not sure why is so hard to actually “experiment” with any of them.
And that’s just a waste of everyone time.
They really should try out something once a month.
I mean, remember, Moira was trending on Twitter when they actually tried something new.
Because the design of defense DPS failed when the playerbase found out the offense DPS did a better job by design.
As far as I know no games have good tank queues
I think there is a variety of heroes that is in dire need for a rework.
Then there are some that could probably be better and/or more fun or create certain issues in their curernt state.
And there are some that are just fine.
Examples (a mix of personal opinion and what I hear a lot):
NEEDS a rework: Symmetra, Bastion, Brigitte, Mei
Creates certain issues: Mercy, Sigma
Could be more fun for those who play them: D.Va, Orisa
Could be better: Sombra, Echo
Could be less annoying for enemies: Doomfist, Genji, Hammond, Moira
Should not get a rework: Widowmaker, Reinhardt, Zenyatta, Torbjörn
Of course, you cant put everyone into these categories. Ana for example: While I’ve seen every single part of her kit being deemed to “need a rework” (Heals to much, Sleep’s too long, Nade unfair, Nano too strong, ectr.) , most people are fine with her and agree she doesnt need big changes.
Very true. And that’s why “Tanks should be walking bullet sponges, and be wholey dependant on their teammates to do damage or get heals” probably is the opposite of what Tanks should be.
Which is what the game is moving more towards no?
Which is what the game is moving more towards no?
I mean kinda, but the Orisa bullet speed and reduced barrier hp change is the only real change in that direction.
If they are really going in the “Barriers are Optional”
Counters/Nerfs for Bionade, DmgBoostedHeadshots, Snipers, UltChargeFeeding, Earthshatter
And possibly increasing the lethality of Tanks, or making them less dependant on healers.
Players keep asking for reworks because they feel they are necessary. This isn’t rocket science.
I mean Symm, Mei, Brig, Bastion and to some extent Sombra do have some fundamental design issues that prevent them from getting buffs.
I don’t disagree, but the real question is “Is this actually a major problem?”
I personally prefer having niche heroes that offer something interesting and cool to have in the game, but still remain generally weak for the sake of the overall game, over being reworked to “generic hero 77” just for the sake of getting their name to show up a bit more often on a stats website.
no i think an abundance of characters are badly designed and it shows, for example Brig has been an issue for the game since day 1
Doomfist wouldnt even be viable if it wasnt for his countless unintended mechanics.
Echo literally has every ability in the game.
Sigma has made Dva pointless since he’s been out.
Moira has her design to blame for her being played more like a cheap dps than a heal.
if bastion was brought out today he’d still have a shield as they’re not lenient to make any real changes.
Sombra has the safest kit in the game and the only way she can fight you is by stopping you from playing.
Roadhog is basically everything but a tank.
Sym is just a weird mess.
Widow is like something out of a different game, you cant have a game like overwatch and make your snipes like every other shooter and give her a safe get out from the few things that actually counter her.
Mei another character based on stopping you from playing the game
Baptiste literally has an ability that can save anyone from anything and just cant be outplayed unless he’s just dead.
as mechanically difficult as tracer can be juggling her blinks is pretty easy, this
makes her very difficult for the majority of the ladder to deal with.
Ashe is just a stronger re-creation of a character we already had.
Ana completely denies healing and can turn almost any character into a raid boss.
and theres more, i’m not saying i personally have massive problems with all of these characters, infact i main a couple but i 100% see the design flaws, some are barely fun to play and others are horrid to play against, all this being said I wouldnt really trust blizzard to rework them anyway, i think they need to focus on bugs and basic balance before doing any reworks or adding any new characters as the game has literally not 1 time been in a stable place.
