Player is in a different version of Overwatch?

I’m online in the menus with some friends on discord. I can group up with one of them, but not 2 others. When I hover over Invite to Group for those 2 it says “Player is in a different version of Overwatch”. Those two can group up together, but they see the same thing when trying to invite us.

All 4 of us are on 2.1.0.1-105995, according to the number in the top left.

One thing we have noticed, for those 2 that I can’t invite, when they see a new player log in, we all can invite them while the new player has the base Overwatch Player Icon, but as soon as the Player Icon updates to what they had equipped, they can no longer invite that new player to their group, while I can invite that new player to my group.

Same here. I tried to invite my brother to a group and it says hes playing a different version of Overwatch.

I hit this issue too. I only had one friend out of 4 online that I couldn’t group with. Seeing this was an old issue in OW1 some reported fixed through restarts, I tried that.
Two of us restarted the bnet launcher and game and waited in queue again. I couldn’t group with any of them after, making the problem worse.

It wasn’t a patching issue that I can tell, we had the same patch number as OP.

I had this same issue too. What worked for me and my friends was to make sure we had real ID enabled in our account. I didn’t initially and after I enabled it and my launcher refreshed I was able to invite my friends to games again.

My friends and I were having the same problem and found a work around.
We found out that if you change all of your Icons to the base black Overwatch Icon you can then invite all friends.
Good luck.

I tried that but it did not work for me. Still says player is on a different version.

Same problem here, none of the solutions above work.

Just adding my voice here, same issue.

Use /invite to bypass, thank me later

Try to delete your friend, invite and then add again

This worked perfectly, thanks so much!

Yup, I’m getting the exact same issue. Online it says that its likely due to players having different versions, but we all updated at the same time. The “”/join [battle.net tag]" has allowed me to view another players match but once the match is over, kicks me back to the main menu. Haven’t found a fix yet

I made a 10 second video about a workaround for the “Player is in a different version of Overwatch” problem
