Why do we have placements. I don’t understand. They don’t place you, they just add up SR gains and losses over the course of your 10 games and don’t show you until after the match is over, but they count for even less?
I ended last season at 2325
I won 9 Placements
I Placed at 2485
I got 160 SR from 9 wins and 1 loss? What? That means that each win counted for something like, 18 SR. Normal SR gains are like, 20+. So really, wtf is going on? Placements just feel like they are a barrier to entry where you don’t actually get to play real comp until you complete them, even though they are in fact completely normal matches, they just count for less SR…
Honestly I truly believe 75% of peoples problems would go away if we just stopped placements, and had one continuous season. Everyone gets the false hope of new season, new placements, I can do good and place 500+ higher than last season if I can just do amazing these 10 games. Just let it be one season and I think a lot less complaining would happen.
I used to love placements. I would get hyped for them. Now I could take them or leave them. They are the drudgery of OW.
Without placements how will the Dovakin stop Alduin, the first born of Akatosh, and prevent the end of the world? Wait… that was Dragonrend.
Joking aside: most likely a holdout they haven’t removed that exists to start a seaso fresh and with a mystery for casuals. Seasons themselves are meaningless aside from data gathering and rewards allocation purposes anyway.
draws a bunch of people back to the game and has them play 10 or maybe even more games. Even if those player numbers are not made public it’s a still great from a marketing point of view.
Show the numbers to people looking to maybe invest ad dollars into the esport side of the game. It also has people fire up the blizzard launcher and “Oh hey look the other game is on sale” and so on.
No one has liked placements for a very, very long time. Now that the off season is all of a few hours and ZERO change to the game from season to season anymore they are truly pointless for anyone who isn’t new to the game.
I’m the same. A few seasons back I started doing horribly on them, but I always pull above a 50% winrate soon after
