So, with only 2 placements lost, gold healing and at least silver damage every round as moira. Literally every round, i still placed silver 1800 after i was done. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. The placement system will place you in a SR range similar to your final placement in the season prior (decayed SR is not accounted for).
i don’t consider them a waste of time, in that you gain/lose SR for wins and losses just like you do when you can see your SR. It’s just 10 games where you can’t see your SR.
Pretty much, though performance in your placements can influence how much SR you gain as a difference between your last season’s SR, and your SR for the new season.
I hit 3000 SR in season 13, then in season 14, I won 5 placement matches, and lost 5. However, I played better than usual in all of my placement matches, so I got placed with about 3100 SR in season 14.
sorry, you said 1800 in OP. So you were gaining at 21 per game, total gain of 126. This probably indicates that you’re gaining a little bit less when you win than you are when losing, which is probably down to your performance stats compared to other Moiras in your rank. If you maintain this winrate though, you’ll be in Gold pretty soon GL
You’ve gone from low-mid silver to mid-high silver. Congratulations!
Seriously, this is the system rewarding you well for your wins, recognising you’ve improved as a player and putting you where you belong.
It’s not as if you’ve suddenly changed as a player entirely in the moments between S14/15, but the skill rank is placing you where you belong based upon your ability to perform your role in the matches you were in.
Unless you seriously carried and dominated those matches and ended all of them with huge game breaking statistics, it’s quite normal to start with your placements in a similar place to where you ended.
I’d recommend picking up other healers if that’s the role you’re maining, determining the best healer to carry the weighty people on your team as they try to DPS up the ladder and becoming the difference maker for your team winning and the enemy team losing. You’ll find that you rank up quickly!!
I guess the point of placements is that if you want to get a rank for a season and get rewarded for that at the end of the season, you have to play a minimum of 10 games. Additionally, the 10 games probably gives the system a decent chance at finding a ballpark rank for players who are brand new to comp. What would be the point of a system where the placement games were more significant than regular season games?
This is correct 95% of the time. When I went from plat into diamond it was through placements, where I jumped from 2940 right up to 3350 or so. It was really weird as I hadn’t seen it coming at all and was quite taken aback from it! Very anti-climactic, but amusing way to rank up!
Haven’t played comp since S9 though, and my last game was a heavily decayed game to try to help a friend rank up
Wins/Losses do not matter in your placement matches. It’s the PBSR system. It’s your performance on Hero-X, compared to other players on Hero-X at roughly the same MMR/SR.
I never condone one-tricking, except for placements. You need to pick your best Hero and squat on that Hero for all 10 matches.
As an example. Zen is my main. But I’ve gotten board of playing support from time to time and have tried to play other roles during the seasons.
One season, I did all of my placements with S76. I went 8-2 and lost over 100+ SR from where I previously had left off.
Conversely, I’ve gone under-500 as Zen in my placements and have gained 100+ SR from were I left off. Matter of fact, I’ve never dropped SR after my placement matches, no matter my record, when playing Zen.
I dont agree because if im the best of my team and i do great if we loose ill still wont win anything a lose SR, so no i wont put me exactly were i belong, specially if you solo Queue.
Believe it or not, you’re not the best of your team. That’s not how this team game works. This mindset alone shows why you’re Bronze/Silver/Gold.
You belong at your rank, don’t let yourself trick yourself into thinking any different.
