Phone verification is a good idea

As title.

Still a good idea. Will not 100% prevent people be toxic and people use cheat. BUT will reduce alot, since we are talking about an FREE TO PLAY game.

Good job blizzard!

People only see what affects them and not the whole. This is good for the whole of the game considering the game is free.

Honestly, if they did this phone number thing for ranked only I would be more than happy to keep it, but why for casual modes? Not only that but some people use cricket and wont have access. Either way im for keeping the new change since i’d rather have it than face smurfs. But keep it ranked only

The problem is, people are toxic and use cheat not only in competitive games. Casual and arcade exists lot of these people. Untill also custom games…

Yup best way to kill OW 2. Be a detriment to the player base so they won’t play your game. This will be the nail in the coffin. It’s no wonder Jeff and Geoff have left the company.

Unless you have plans to be toxic or use cheating in game theres no problem with phone verification.

Agreed. It definitely sucks at an individual level if someone doesn’t have a qualifying phone plan, but in the macro sense I definitely think it’s better for the game. It might have been better if it was for Comp only, but regardless this will go a LONG way towards fighting smurf and troll accounts, which has been desperately needed for a while now.

So what about all the people who paid for more than 1 account? F-them>???

Well yes, smurf accounts was almost big problem in entire OW1. Making matchmaking balance worst

Why do they need more than one account? There isn’t really a legitimate reason unless it’s for a family member or something.

I understand that too, toxicity is inevitable but it doesn’t mean we should ignore it. I’m thinking of this with a ranked mindset. Mostly about smurfing. But even with the number requirement toxicity is still gonna be inevitable. I dont personally think you need a phone number in order to play casually compared to playing competitively

Yeah i fogot this point also. Smurfs account was the major problem, and maybe made they took this decision

Same thing i had thought, there’s no point to have another account if ONLY you will play, except for an smurf.

Back in the day many have legit multiple accounts as to not drop their sr and such from role to role. So now blizzard is saying thank you for your money the product you purchased is now being taken away. P.s. please don’t sue us

You know what actually WOULD reduce a lot of toxicity? Removing chat with the enemy team.

Think it’s a side issue of thinking ahead and preventing a botting issue. Could you imagine a bunch of random accounts with random names just grinding out the heroes to then sell immediately after unlocking everything?

This don’t impact at all, your team can be toxic anyway. “pick that hero” “bruh trash”

I had a PS4 account when OW launched. I switched to PC, bought a new account. It was my first PC game, I couldn’t aim or do even basic movement for a while. My PC account was in Bronze while my PS4 account was Diamond. I could not climb out of Bronze, no matter what. I bought a new PC account, I got placed much higher, back to Diamond. That’s 3 accounts, none of them “smurfs.”

I’m literally the opposite of a smurf, I bought an entire account to play in my actual rank because the game wouldn’t let me climb on my old one.

Well congrats on solving nothing by not listening to my working solution that has been used in other Blizzard games and non Blizzard games and leaving things the way they have been for years. If you want an impact then tell Blizzard to do it and see the results.

Except, they require a UNIQUE number to play. What about people who have kids and play with their kids. Are they all going to have phone numbers?

What about the people who use services like google voice, regular phone lines, and not cell phones?

What about the people who are on pre-paid cell phone plans?

None of them will be able to play if this is how it’s going to be. How about grandfather in OW1 accounts to not need a contracted cell phone plan, or something other than this.

See paladins as F2P, does not have any means to fight toxic people and cheating, and see the chaos.

First OW is a 12yo, theres no Kids. Also in this age their must request parents permission to do this…
