Perks that you should not shoot need some indicators

If someone gets a perk that means you should change your behaviour, such as DVa gaining health from absorbing damage, should get clear indicators that the behaviour has changed. When facing a DVa, for example, you should be able to tell if you are feeding her HP with matrix like you can with doom block perk.

Having no indication (or none I’ve noticed at least) means you have no idea if you need to be careful or if you can safely start shooting at her when you know she is reaching the end of her matrix resource, but just before it ends to maximise immediate damage.

I’m sure there are a few other things that should also visually indicate that you might want to treat the hero differently.

I mean, in this case the indicator is the bright blue shield HP she now suddenly has.
But you shouldn’t shoot DM anyway, even if it’s “just before it ends”.

but aren’t we going away from knowing what our enemies do? We don’t want this to be anything even close to what overwatch used to be. we want it all changed!

I guess they could change the matrix visuals?
I just never shoot the matrix, i reload when she uses it.

Could just press tab?

Yeah I was going to say, aren’t the perks displayed for your enemies too?

Sure some perks are not intuitive but again … the ones you can’t see with no indicators, don’t generally require you to change anything on your approach.

I see your point, OP, but I’d be in favour of changing visuals for some perks for the simple reason that it looks cool. D.Va’s shielding DM perk changing the colour of DM to something more blue-ish just sounds neat on the face of it. Changing Zarya’s beam visuals/sound effects to indicate that it can’t be bodyblocked may or may not be helpful, but it would be sweet.

Imagine if Nano didn’t change the sound effects on guns. It would feel less impactful, even though from a numbers point of view nothing would change. As it is, hearing Nano-boosted gunfire is pure ear candy.

I’m not against the idea of providing additional visual cues, but there is already a visual indicator for this one. The fact that she has shield hp gives it away. You can see it in the enemy healthbar.

I mean you shouldn’t be wasting ammo into matrix anyway. Sigma basically already has that perk in his base kit and he doesn’t have an indicator either.

So youre gonna ignore the blue health bar and the fact you shouldnt waste ammo into her defense matrix to begin with to look like you have an argument? Cool.

Generally i’m fine with the idea that perks can use updates in the future considering this is their first iteration in the base game but you shot blanks with that one

Well, he does. He has a big swirly thing in front of him. You know, because it is in his base kit and is part of the ability, that shooting it gives him health and so you make an effort not to shoot anywhere near it.

With DM you are often trying to shoot someone other than DVa and her matrix comes across the path. Often you will still shoot if you know her matrix is low on resource because she just used it on something else - every bullet counts when it ends if you are shooting at a squishy. It should indicate somehow that you are feeding her health.

The blue bar above her is fine if you are shooting at DVa, but often you are shooting at something else that she then DMs and you are not looking at her health bar (she may not even be on the screen).

My dude, once you see the blue bar once you know it’s there for the rest of the game. You don’t need to be looking at her every time just once. You see the matrix, don’t shoot it. It’s like a Zarya bubble now. Don’t shoot the thing once you’ve seen the blue bar.

And D.va has a big green rectangular thing in front of her that’s arguably easier to see.

I don’t usually shoot until I see the green indicator go away. I also have the timing memorized, so I know how long she can hold it up for at the latest.

There’s also an audio cue, as well as a visual cue when your bullets are consumed.

I think it’s too niche of a scenario for it to necessitate more indicators, especially with how cluttered the game already is visually.

By this logic zarya bubble , genji deflect and sigma grasp all should have an indicator , which , is not a bad thing for new commers

Reload and/or die regardless :stuck_out_tongue:

I would like to have a “negative” hit marker for anything you shouldn’t shoot. That would also help new players and in 6v6 (two tanks with different behaviors).

you can just look at the score board and see the perks they have selected you know
